Has anyone ever seen or heard of someone converting a 2g to an EV? I know it probably wouldn't be the best car to convert because of the weight, but just wondering if anyone knows of one.

I have a chance to get a 2g body for free, was kinda contemplating converting it to electric to just get around town. I wanted to see if anyone else had done it. Seems like the kits are pretty steep in price.

Your electric bill will increase more than the cost of the gas to get around.

Surely, your NT's gas mileage can't be so bad that you'd honestly consider this project; As there is NO way to make it cost effective. If it is that bad, you need a serious tune-up, and to re-evaluate your driving style.

I think it is a neat idea for a just for fun project.

I've done some rough planning for it. Actually, the cost to charge up the car would be about 25 cents, depending on the kWh rates in your part of the country. You shouldn't notice it on your electric bill because traveling on electricity is so damn efficient. The cost lies in the batteries - I needed about $10k in LiFePO4 batteries to give it a practical around-the-town range.

Yeah, I thought it would def be cool to have an electric 2g just to be different. I just don't have enough fab skills to pull it off. I would love to have an electric car, but for some reason every EV any car companies make are hidious looking (I wonder why)......lol. I think the 2g Eclipse is still ahead of it's time as far as looks go, it still looks like a car of the future. If a bolt on kit ever comes out, I'm going to be all over it, great way to get around town.

Cool, he should've did a 2g version but still neat.

I would swap those batteries for the light weight odessy or optima's, if they had a rechargeable versions.

The ones he use looks like those for electric scooters. My mother has one collecting dust in her storage, doesn't even keep a charge.

Wow, it costed the 7.50 on his electrical bill. He charge them up after evry drive.

Course you also have to think about the size of the batteries along with spacing. I saw a 68 Camaro converted for the lead singer of RHCP and they filled the entire trunk along with under the hood of the car with batteries. There was space under the hood between the electrical components and the hood to hook it up. It could still roast the tires too. It's an interesting concept and could get good reviews. Its a way to think outside the box. Good around town concept too.

the gap between inexpensive to still have great electric car technology is about 5 yrs from realization. Nissan's Leaf is the first real large step. 2nd, chevy volt.

are you looking at long term or short term investment? long term is worthwhile but if you are looking at short term you'll never benefit.
