As Subject states advice needed. First, off I sold my white 97gs got 1500 cash, reason 2g strut tower problem. I wanted the turbo 1g all I found where crap.
Found two 2g's one is local 5mins from me the other short 30 minute drive.
2g thats a half hour drive is a black 1998 gs gray int. 1200 cash, needs atx flush, minor fix. Car Runs good, good tires/brake and comes with aem CAI. Pic of this is in the attachment enjoy.
2g, thats local guy wants $575 cash its a red 1995 esi atx, doesn't run, guy said it jump time body/interior is in great shape.
I'm considering the red 95 esi, change the rear to a 2gb keep talon wing.
Here's what I estimated to get the REDWING running. starting with cost of car $575 title transfer $50 or less not sure plate transfer $35 again not sure about cost my tags are good from the 97 Towing to shop $35, I say 35 due to Canton,Oh jack PPL on city tow. Parts: Timing and water pump $160 Labor at shop est. $350, he suggested this the shop is down the road from where the 95 sits.
Total cost is 1,205 pray :bowdown to the 2g god, this is why it can't run and she starts. - subtract from $1500 about 300 left over to play with.
Advice, am I getting screwed over, if get the 1995 esi.
I'm looking at the ESI tonight, possibly purchasing it. Both 2g's are from CL :) my first time buying from there.
Thankyou 2gnt.
Maybe this year I'll grow a pair break out of my shyness and show her to you guys at this years SO. But,teasing is fun though.
:thumbsup :cheers
note: found out late tonight the shop is owned by my cousin on my mother's side.

you may want to rethink that "parts" estimate if it jumped timing you'll most likely need to replace most if not all the valves. You're probably better off just purchasing a rebuilt head off ebay for ~250-300

Good call, I was thinking the same thing but picking an used one up a pull apart.
I'm going to have a compression test done also. To verify if the valves are bad. Also, at the moment I'm having a price qoute for all three things. I'm going to buy the parts myself only two items the shop would buy is the lower timing key and the hydralic tensioner. That's if there's good compression, I'm crossing my fingers.
My old 97gs had the same problem, but while I was driving thankfully it was only the water pump went out.
I've talked to the owner last night, he said the timing belt went but isn't sure if the valves where bent. I'm looking at it tonight, giving it good look over. Hopefully it all looks good, if not. I'll be checking out two Black 2g's a 1999gs local and the 1998gs I mentioned. The 1998gs is within my price range. I've people say never get the first one, the pretty ones could turn out to be lemons and the ugly ones would triumph(the 1998gs in the pic). If the car looks good. I should do the compression test, at the owners house while I wait to have it towed to the shop.

I'd hold off on either of those. If you're going to buy a $600 car, buy a Volvo. Otherwise...
95 TSi http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/1572501338.html
Not much in the area in the way of cheap DSMs.
Volvo 745 Turbo http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/1578362682.html
Holy shit. Deal of the century. $700, running XR4Ti! http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/1578765464.html
(If you didn't know, those are rare, turbo, and RWD.) FTW!
I'd drop $700 on a running Xratty in need of a turbo rebuild TODAY.

He's not asking about Volvos or XR4Ti's. He's asking about 2G's.

I have a head that has been rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. Car is a total loss. Still cranks and runs, just doesn't drive. $300 shipped and it is yours.

Guys, I would like to say this 2gnt is the best.
My little rant, I just got off the phone for price quote. To do a compression test, replace the timing belt-components, water pump. If the valves are bad, head replacement, towing and labor.
Well, it sounds like my cousin(owner)and the mechanic(my brother). Is trying to screw me over.
There qoute, 715 for labor, if the head is bad about 300-500 used, another 150 for timing water pump and 35 for towing plus the 6.50 tax. Also 575 for the car. Fawk!! Don't mean to be angry but its messed up.
I've drawn to a conclusion, to this ordeal. I'l be buying the 98gs for 1200 instead.
Finally talk to the owner of the 98, he mentioned the atx slips abit. When at idle it drops a little then it pickups when pressing the throttle. This sounds abit normal for the a604, mine 97 did the same but it was perfect (limp mode) Buying it tommorrow morning.

Hang on to it for me Till I get my refund. If you could, thanks man.

Bought the 1998 today it was a good drive there. First its a complete stock base model RS. 112k, ####. It was bought with 69,ooo on the clock. Cloth seats black interior power sunroof thats all, manuel mirrors, no fog lights :( cheap cd player, speakers all work sounds good very surprised, also has the known 2g clear coat faded. Rear hatch works but has bad hatch struts, it won't open. The struts need replaced, you can hear it squeak when I make a turn. There is minor surface rust on driverside tower, rest of the 2g is rust free except for the normal problem with the hatch. When I first drove down his driveway he was right it feel like its in nuetral then a quick jump. I believe its because the Fluid is completely low.
Checked the a604 fluid, guess what. Damn, thing is very low but No biggie. I barely get a reading on the dip stick, I bet thats why he said it slips.
Rs came with papers of a recent e-check and it passed. It doesnt blow smoke at all, has no cell's either. Surprised again because the over- switch doesn't come on when I engaged it. If the trans is bad, mtx swap will be done. Has no alarm, nor power locks and if it has one it didnt come the key-ring button. I'll find out when I jack it up or look in the manuel but I highly doubt it, its a base model.
First, order of business is a complete atx fluid filter change.
Cool, thing is he has fully built 67 Dart for the strip, and his son works at BigShot Dyno. They both have been to Norwalk and Dragway 42. The guy's name sound so familar Jeff Mullins.
Paid 1200 for it on the spot. The idle is perfect way better than my old 1997 gs, she idles at 1,000 instead of 800-900. Well, see how it is after the flush. She'll get a wash today and snap some pics.
Rs came from Ron Marhofer-weiss motors, I'm wondering if it came from Mike's work. This dealer is near his workplace, anyways I'm stoked. Purrs like a kitten and shes begging for a turbo. One day I'l take up to bigshot dyno and see where its at.I'm thinking they had it on there once.
As for me taking the RS to my brothers shop place to it checked, probably not. Because he was an ass, talking smack, and saying I can't learn anything from reading information on this forum. Actually working on engines etc. you get a better knowledge. He said this last night and I didn't say a word after these comments. I know he would shut up if he talked one of guys in person..

Yes, I prefer mtx over atx. But the only 2g mtx on CL didn't run, the guy wanted 1350 for non running car. I needed a running car so this what I found and with my budget. Wished It less than a grand this RS I have but it was priced to sell. I was the first with the cash to get it. Three others looked at but none ponied up the cash.

Good news: Found out while going through the maintence paper work the whole Head was machined, timing water pump was done also. The mileage when this was done is 56,ooo miles. My car has 111,9x on it but my title when he bought it was at 69,000. I'm happy now, only bad thing radiator needs replaced, shocks/struts springs also. But my steering is freakin' squeaky like an old bed box spring and my front tires sounds it has a nail or screw. Power steering could be low or empty, going to check this tommorrow hear a thump, thump like the tires on New a car from a dealership, does stop once in awhile.
My car has the Rs/Gs 14' wheels, tires are good but start to wear on the inside on all four. Alignment is slightly off but decent, this will be done at same time for balljoint recall. I have brand new falkens 16 tires just need to get either the ninja star or gst wheels.
I have to buy a tuner lug nut key set, becuase owner had these cheap tuner locks and car didnt come with the key for it. Found this out when I put it up on the stands.
Would my 2g through out a code, without having the check engine light on. I went up autozone and the guy said it wouldn't reading it, due to No cel.
Pics will come this weekend
