I am currently in the market for a new television and am wondering what you guys have or plan to get. I have never bought a tv like this before...im not concerned with 1080 at all being as i dont have a blu ray dvd player and dont plan on buying all my dvds over again. im just gonna go with a 720 with an upconverted dvd player.

Im looking at a 50" plasma thats the same price as a 40" lcd

From what i hear, plasmas drawbacks are it gives off glare due to the glass casing needed to hold the gas in. but in a dark room, picture is the best. It uses more energy and is also much heavier. The pros are they are cheaper and with the glass housing, the screen cant be destroyed as easily by lil ones. (i have a 4 year old in the house who just the other day thru a wii remote up behind the entertainment center)

LCD - Picture is great all the time, low weight, less energy. More easily damaged by lil ones.

So plasma or lcd? LED is too expensive for me.

If all you're planning on doing with it is TV/movies, then I would go with whatever is most reasonably priced. Just make sure whatever you buy has at least a 20000:1 Dynamic and 10000:1 static contrast ratio. This will ensure you don't get a TV that shows the "screen-door" effect. If you're not playing games, there is no reason to get a high-end display with a 1-2ms response time.

LED for sure. Never liked plasmas. They look good now, but give it a year, the picture will be darker than it was when you bought it. I just got an LCD for Christmas and I love it. Its only 720P but looks awesome with my PS3 hooked up to it. Hooray for COD and Blu-ray movies.

Based on what you said....buy the Plasma. I just bought a 50" Panasonic 1080p (4mil:1 contrast IIRC) and it was 1200.00.

Picture is wonderful, glare is not bad at all. On sunny days i will close the blinds in the room, which still allow light into the room anyway.

check out some mitsubishi tv's, some of them are not lcd or plasma, but some other type and come in 1080p for cheaper then most lcd's or plasma's but have gotten good reviews.

I have had a 48" Phillips LCD since February - bought it at Walmart for $1000 and have enjoyed it without any problems.

I have a 32" HDMI wide screen LCD monitor/TV I bought off CL for $200. I love it. 2gnt looks so much larger now ;)

I got a 48" Panasonic Viera 1080p as a package deal along with a 95GSX. I just sold the car this weekend but I'm keeping the plasma. Awesome picture in any lighting conditions.

Sometimes the details on actors faces are a bit too clear though. Have you seen the 30 Rock episode where they show the actors in normal view and HD view...ROFL!

we got a 46" LCD from BestBuy. Didn't think it through though cause we bought it when we went to the store in the Mustang:wallbash . Thankfully it was a convertible so we were able to put it in the backseat with the top down and drive her home :nuts You won't believe the smiles you get when you drive down the street with the top down and a giant box sticking out the back. Couldn't do that with a Plasma screen so, score one LCD!

Plasma bleed if tilted a certain way and it will ruin. Though it may have glass, it is still easy to break if hit right. You also have to make sure you turn it off when you are not watching it. The longer you leave it on, the less it will last. A friend of mine bout one and left it on all the time, needless to say the next year he was buying a new tv. I have a 47" lcd and love it. Movies and games look great along with all the HD channels I have through my cable company. Personally it is always preference on what you want to get. Our opinions shouldn't matter with your decision.

LCD - pretty much all around the way to go in my opinion. Movies, games, regular TV, its pretty much the balanced option.

If you're a big movie watcher who likes to sit down at night with all the lights off and watch movies and you generally do this often then you may want to consider a plasma for the richer colors.
