You kinda took the fun out of it since you cant get a Mitsubishi, Subaru which would be your two primary AWD, Forced induction cars that are new but going a slightly different route but keeping within the parameters this is what I would go with.

I was also thinking a BMW. Probably a M3 or M5 for me though, although that may put you over or at least close to your $35k limit. These cars are fast and an awesome daily driver for family times

If your looking 05-08 I'd just get the 335i or 335xi (awd) and leave the M3 alone. The 335's in these years have just as much power for alot less money. The twin turbo 335's are the reason the had to go to V8s in the M3's. They were killing them and can still do it with bolt on mods from what I understand. We love ours, it's just plain old sick!

took her out to dinner last night, then went to some dealerships around town.

Hundai Genesis is out. she liked the car, but upclose the back seat is just like in the eclipse.

Audi A4 is out. ironically she liked the A5 better, but were not sold on the reputation for reliability just yet

WRX / STI is out. she actually like the previous body style better then this current run.

Charger SRT-8 is possible. she did say that was a bad ass car
VW GTI and GLI are both possible.

EVO is actually possible. :) this was the biggest suprise for me. she liked the car, though there is no way to swing an MR version.
her hesitency with Mitsubishi has been because of all the problems that the Eclipse has had.
but she did say the stance looked better and she liked the sharper angles of this bodystyle over the previous version.

Do not get anything from VAG (VW/Audi) chances are that you will be VERY sorry, and the problems could make the Eclipse look like a walk in the park

But if you get an evo it has a warrenty. ALso evos aint dsms so their way more reliable cause their japanese made not american haha.

How about a Ford Fusion? I know, I know, I just got one... but because I was surprised by it and like it is not the whole reason I am recommending one.

Considering what you are looking for, it could be a good car, but for you I would not get a 2009. Don't get me wrong, a 2009 is a fine car, but you seem to want more performance and the 2010 would be a better choice.

Find a 2010 Fusion AWD SPORT. The 2010s which aren't the sport model have electric power steering and electric power steering usually kind of sucks. The sport model still has regular belt driven power steering and the steering feel is supposedly better. Besides, the sport has the most power.

The AWD sport meets most of your criteria:

1. AWD
2. MSRP of $27,600 to start
3. new
4. looks "cool," well, looks are subjective so I certainly can't judge that for you, at least it's not bland, right?
5. 4 doors
6. not loud
7. no funny scoops
8. no mods (don't think you'd want to anyway)
9. not a mitsu or subaru
10. good HP for the money (263 hp, decent enough)

Also, it's big inside, handles well, and is comfortable too (not a bouncy, jarring ride, not a floating ride either, seems to have a good balance)

Disadvantages:

1. no turbo
2. no manual tranny
3. AWD is heavy (3800 lbs I think)
4. It's still a big mid sized family sedan, which may be fine depending on your needs, or maybe not what you had in mind since I think this is supposed to be both a "daily driver/regular" car AND a "fun" car
5. FORD, well, enough said, heh heh (and I have a new one which I'm very satisfied with, still it's that Ford stigma some people might have)
6. it's no G37 (but it's less $$$ than a G37)


I was also thinking of the A4, but that's out as you said.

The BMW 335xi is an option, but I don't know what they are going for at the moment. It's a BMW, which means probably expensive.

MAYBE also a Lexus IS250AWD, but the AWD IS is ONLY available in the 250 if I remember correctly and that puny engine is NOT going to be what you had in mind, I am certain of that. You'd pay $35k for an AWD car with only 204hp. Still, I've always liked the look of the IS, very nice...

Then there is the Charger. I'm sure you could get a deal on a Dodge considering Chrysler's condition right now. There is an AWD version for the SXT but that has a 3.5L V6 with 250hp, and I think the RT AWD with the smaller hemi, with at least 360hp, is a better idea and with AWD is still cheaper than the SRT-8. If you're not going to mod the car than 360hp should be plenty (although, I know that argument is falling on deaf ears, considering the performance junkies on the board, heh heh) but the SRT-8 seems overkill with a AWD 360hp cheaper car available.

Oh, and the Pontiac G8 is a consideration, but no AWD

If you're on a budget, the Fusion, if not probably the G37.
