39029, What's up my brethren?
Posted by cougar694u, Feb-23-09 02:42 PM
Just figured I'd stop in and say hello.

I've been looking around for another car and nothing comes to mind, I don't really like anything out anymore. I looked around at the local 2g's, but they're all beat to hell and back.

I think I'm gonna sell the mustang and buy something else. Originally, I planned on getting a 2005+ mustang gt, but the appeal has slightly gone away. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time this happened to me. It went: mustang #1, 2gnt #1, mustang #2, truck, mustang #3 + 2gnt #2, mustang #3 - 2gnt #2, and left with the mustang #3.

It's odd, but I've contemplated the Mini Cooper S, and I dunno why. It's not like it's some bad ass car, but I'm actually leaning towards it. I found one south of houston in my price range (was hoping for sub $10k, but found one for $10.5k).

How's everything going in the 2gnt world?

I got to do a track day in my mustang:

I didn't really push it because I was afraid I'd blow my shit up, but it was a lot of fun.

I think 2gnt #1 would have handled that much better than my mustang did, probably 2gnt #2 would have also.

Other than that, absolutely nothing has changed on my end.

Yeah, so I've noticed. Despite not posting in a while, 2gnt's never far from my thoughts.

Same here, Luke.

You do know Dino's getting married in April, right? Houston, sir. PM him for details.

Things are slow, but 2GNT is never far from my mind.

Being a dad and working the time away.

My g/f Maria has an 08 Mini Cooper, it's not the S :( but its still a fun, great, and solid car to drive. She got an automatic (of course) it's still fun to put it in sport mode and drive around with the paddle shifters or the slapstick.

I test drove an S yesterday. Although it was fun for the 20mins I used it for, I'm not sold yet.

One of the things I have a hard time with is it holds 4 people. Technically, my mustang does, too, but my third child can squeeze in the middle of the back seat if need be (on rare occasions have I done that). I don't think it'd be possible in the mini.

If I can come across a smokin deal, I may pick one up.

I can fit 3 carseats across in my 04 WRX. I like how fun and reliable it is.

That's the one problem we are having right now with her car...fitting a damn carseat in there! We haven't even tried to put it in there we just use my car for taking the baby around.

Hey Luke, good to hear from you. Just holding on right now with the economy the way it is. BUT I have come across a couple of cool Mini Coops. One had a GSR (?) motor in it and another had a turbo 4g63 (it was like a 35R or some kind of shit like that, lol). Um, pretty quick (understatement). The GSR version still had the lawn mower tires on it. Haha, pretty useless at all speeds.

Just food for thought.

I would think that the b18c GSR powered mini's would have a hard time getting out of their own way considering the extra heft of the mini and the lack of low end torque.

Yeah Cas, I read some reviews about people actually fitting a car seat in the mini, two of them, actually. Luckily, my kids are beyond that stage; unfortunately, they're too big now to fit all three across there.

Mark, I hear ya about the economy, I'm pretty thankful I'm in the industry I'm in (food & drug retail, HEB, people gotta eat). There have been some layoffs, but our team's pretty lean, so not much fat to trim. That's another reason I'm reluctant to spend some of my cash I have stashed on a Mini.

Your NA times are gettin down there, and your turbo times are getting close to my cougar (MPH already shows better power/weight ratio than me).

How you like the OZ? I miss mine.

Funny you should ask. I bought it as a flip car. I liked it so much, I had to buy another car to flip so that I could pay for the OZ, lol.

If I can get the time to work on the turbo, we should have some impressive 420a times to look at this year. BTW, you did hear that Crane closed their doors, right?

Looks like right now Comp is trying to pick them up. I can't imagine the Crane name not being worth a bit of cash. Just an indicator of how bad it is out there. Crane has been around for a few.

Yeah, I ran Crane cam, lifters, & rockers. I still have the rockers, but went to a lunati cam.

What will be tough is when GM fails.
