38309, Need some advice about chicken! Posted by eclipse982nrRST, Jan-09-09 11:44 AM
So I need some advice, and it involves chicken, haha.
My wife and I are doing a diet to both try and drop about 25 lbs. We are doing great thus far and are joining a new local gym next month. However, here is our question. You know how you go to say, McDonalds and get a Grilled Chicken sandwhich or a salad with Grilled Chicken...how the fuck do you grill chicken like that? I always get some nice chunks of chicken from the Grocery store, cut off the fat, and I have tried everything to get a nice grill on it, so when you cut it, you cut right through it nice and smoothly. I have tried it on the actual grill outside, a frying pan, and the good old George Foreman grill and they never come out good.
So, does anyone know how to make a nice piece of chicken that I can cut right through with no like burnt crust on the top or bottom, lol?

Use a teflon pan? Less heat? Add some water to keep it moist?

If you can't cook it right on the foreman, you're retarded :P
Get chicken breasts, lightly coat them in oil (use one of those healthy non-stick sprays since you're dieting) flavor with a bit of salt and pepper then throw on the grill over medium heat about 5 minutes on each side. I like to flip once grill marks have been made then after both sides have their grill marks cook a few more minutes on each side. You can tell when it's done by poking it. If it's slightly firm and bounces right back after you press it, it's done. Might take a few trys to get used to it but then you should be able to make perfectly cooked chicken breasts.

ROFL!
Sounds like you're cooking it too long or the grill needs a massive cleaning.
a little olive oil and some seasonings is great, or get some flavored marinades and soak the chicken in that prior to cooking for a few hours. just a few minutes on each side over a medium heat is all you need.

Seems like the Foreman is just too hott for the chicken, haha.
I usually keep the chicken in a closed container marintaing for about 8 hours before I cook it. I think the other problem is that when its frozen out of the freezer, I only let it thaw in the refrigerator for about 10 hours before cooking and sometimes its still forzen in the middle...

I buy the precut frozen, boneless/skinless chicken pieces in bags. Olive oil and skillet or grill if I have time.

I get the boneless skinless breast and grill it SLOWLY on the bbq. Use minimal coals, leave the rack as high as possible. I use a Weber kettle so the rack is stationary. Be sure and put the grill on when the coals are starting so it gets nice n hot before the chicken hits it. That makes the nice little black lines and the searing helps keep the moisture in too. Aftrer the coals are burning good I spread them out and never have more than 1 layer high while cooking.

Mike, if you want it to come out nice and moist you have to make sure it's not frozen when you cook it and let it marinate in some fat free dressing for a few hours before cooking it. Garlic and onion are good for flavor and any of the Mrs. Dash seasonings are pretty good cause they don't have sodium. Also, don't forget about tuna and other types of fish if you wanna lose weight. Good luck Mike.

I used to work for Mcd's longtime ago, there grilled comes precooked with the grilled marks.
It takes 4-5 mins to cook, all I did was I took the frozen grilled chicken Breast white ITs boneless I put it on a skillet ( Mcd's calls it a grill but its not ) I around metal hoop put metal lid with small cup ( has tiny hole for water to moist the chicken)filled with water, The water moists the chicken when cup is emptied, Flip the grilled chicken and fill the cup with water again, its done when cup is emptied. Thats all to it, but keep in mind theMcd's grill is pre heated at 350 degrees.
If you own a skillet that you would cook pancakes on The rectangle skillet the uses two burners on a stove. You can make it but pre heat the pan to 350.
Electric skillet is better.
One way to lose weight is use small portions when dieting, Cut down on food intake. You could still eat the same foods but in small portions.
Having a gym membership is a waste of money, you could same routines at home with dumbells, pull up bar, arm bands. Check out P90X

I was gonna mention P90X. I downloaded a bootleg version of it a few months ago and have yet to see what the whole system is about. I might take a look at it tomorrow while I eat a few greasy BK burgers. :9

Bake it then you throw it on the grill for a minute to make the marks.

Came in here to post this. The chicken cooks for 3:30 on each side though. We use about 4oz of water that does slowly drip onto the grill through the lid of the chicken ring though. Part of the reason it stays moist is it steams the chicken while it is on a grill that is 350*.

They just opened one of those up locally and I must say they are extremely over priced and the food was not even that good.

I marinate chicken in Lawry's mesquite for a few hours then throw it on the foreman for about 7-8 minutes and they are good to go. Also I sometimes just cut them up and stuff them in a pita with some lettuce and FF ranch. Try various ways to eat the chicken so you don't get bored with it. Also I use FF mayo and mustard to make tuna salad and put that in a pita pocket too. I would just stay away from anything McDonalds inspired... just thinking about that place makes me want to vomit. *Side note about the P90X, I've heard good things about it and the premise it's based on is very solid. If you don't want to spend the money, but want a good workout system that comes with a forum and online community you can try CrossFit and it's the same premise just a little different routine.
