What do you guys think about the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4? Has anyone every owned one or drove one? How did you like it?

Too heavy.
Too many in-cabin doohickeys that break.
Finicky transmissions.
Working on a transversely mounted V6 in a sports car engine bay blows ass.
Overall a very expensive car to maintain.

Yes, they are very expensive to maintain, but they have some impressive features.

There isn't enough "impressive" to make up for the fact that the car weighs nearly 2 tons and spends the same amount of time on jack stands as any other DSM.

I love the look of them, but its nearly impossible to find one for a decent price that isnt a pile of shit. as useless as it is, all wheel stearing sounds amazingly fun though.

I recommend for you to either buy a Galant VR4 4g63 powered or buy 2g. You'll save $$ in gas

Unless you have the income budget or if the car comes with a warranty I guess buy it.

If so you remind me of my bro. he bought a 85 T/A his dream car, he owned it for 2 months and I found tonight, his Bird crapped out on him and he's shopping auctions for parts. I guess he'll find out hard way but I kept insiting him on buy a 2G but he refused. I guess there's a lesson to be learned from wanting something that looks good and fast but there's price to pay.

Wasn't there a member on here a while back named Dualgen that had a 3000gt? If I remember correctly he gave up on his too.

Yep, Dave. I'm pretty sure he gave up on his.. I had a 91 stealth TT, they are fun as all hell... But you can tell how heavy they are when youre behind the wheel. I bought mine with quite a few mods... Dyno'd out to just under 390hp, and ran high 13s all day. VERY fun car, I do miss it... but little things were always going wrong, plus it only got about 9mpg, forcing me to sell it...

It's not. Imagine you're on one of those tighter highway on-ramps. You're trying to accelerate around a giant sweeping turn and you're doing well. Then, you reach that threshold somewhere around 40mph where the 4WS kicks in and the rear rack starts doing unnatural things to the rear lower control arms. Eventually, though, you get used to the car feeling like the ass end is about to break loose and throw you into oversteer death.

It's nice at about 60mph on dirt, though. Unless you actually want the ass end to come around, in which case the 4WS actually works against that, which is ironic.

I wouldn't mind a second one down the road.

I guess it depends on what you want the car for. They are not commonly used for racing, because of the previously mentioned high weight and transmissions. I remember someone telling me a new tranny for one costs something like $5K.

Even though they haven't been made in a while, I'm sure insurance on them is still expensive. If you want a car that has not been made in a while I would guess you would want the insurance to be cheap.

Besides that, I have driven a 3000GT (not the VR4 though) and they are comfortable and easy to drive. Defenitely a good cruising car.

I owned one for about 2 years. I miss the car and would love to get another one but only as a weekend car. My 95 VR4 was a daily driver and I had to put a transmission in it. There are transfer case problems in the 1st gens and transmission problems in the 2nd gens. The engines are pretty strong but the car is very heavy and tuners had problems getting them into the 10's until the last couple years. I think it looks much better then a Z and Supra though and I enjoy AWD. FD is another good option but probably even more unreliable. Check out www.3si.org/forum

I test drove one last year from a used car lot. I did notice the weight but I didn't care cause I was just enjoying driving in it. Couldn't even afford it-just seizing the moment to get behind the wheel, lol.
