37961, i wrecked my car last night :'(
Posted by bloodyangel1, Jan-07-07 07:55 AM
i was driving to go pick up my ex and her friends to go cosmic because it was the one chicks birthday, and i knew her pretty well, and about 200 ft from where i needed to be, some dumbass kids tried turning into my lane from the opposite side of the road to turn up this hill, and there was a bus infront of me who also turned up the hill, but i stayed in my lane, and i guess they didnt see me behind him, and tried to either pass him in the other lanes since the hill was a 4-lane road, or get right behind him, and as soon as the bus turned, we hit.

i was doin about 35 or so, got hit in the front drivers side fender area, bumper is destroyed and was under the car, the fender is screwed up, and some of the stuff inside the engine bay got pushed in, like the battery and fuse box, and the intake pipe was smashed. i dont think anything was leaking, i didnt look long because i went to the hospital, but i think the radiator was fine, but one of my rims was all bent up, but i think that was most of the damage. just the front drivers side. i had a little trouble opening the door, and hard a little trouble trying to put it in park so i could take the key out, so the tranny might have some damage...

i dont have any pics yet since i dont know where they towed it, but the ambulance guy said they probably towed it to this place close to me since thats where they normally tow it, and since today is sunday i cant get a hold of no one, but i did get a hold of my insurance agency and filed the claim already, i just hope they dont total it, i put to much into it to only get 1500 or so for it. but i do have full coverage, so they might give me everything i paid for since the insurance guy said to get any reciepts or anything for all the mods i did to it, so the adjustor knows what everything is worth. i just put new injectors in it too, damnit... waste of money, at least i dont have to worry about the rack and pinion right now, if anybody saw my other post, any thoughts or ideas on this situation since this is my first accident like this, and i just want my car back to normal

Sucks to hear man, my car was in a accident with a deer a few days back also so I know the feeling. Glad you are OK. My car was totalled out (by us, not insurance) because my damage was over $4500 according to an estimator. I guess it's a reason to upgrade.

sorry to hear, but if the other car turned into you then shouldn't he be at fault and his insurance company be paying or did I read that wrong?

no you read right, they turned, but i guess it may have been me who hit them, but i was driving straight, i didnt change lanes or anything, but i had the right of way, and continued driving after the bus turned like i normally would have

Yeah, I would say thats totalled. That really sucks man. I would say any parts you can get from it try to get them and make some money. Not sure how the insurance handles that stuff though.

the insurance company is only trying to give me 3500, thats a joke. i added up all the parts i put into this thing, and without labor is was almost 10,000. at first they told me if i had receipts for everything, they would refund me all of it, but now theyre acting like that isnt the case. the guy i talked to said if i fax them copys of all the receipts, i may get more, and if i had any part of the engine rebuilt, i would get that back, but they are acting like they didnt say that, and it isnt true. they just dont want to give me anything for my car... it pisses me off since it was some dumb fucking girls fault... anyone think i should sue them??? a lot of people been sayin that to me, i dunno tho?

let me know if you part out ill take the spoiler

i got hit by a girl in july and it did the same fender, rim and suspension damage you got on your drivers side, it was a total of 4800 in damage cause the front crossmember was destroyed.

they wrote me a check for 900 and gave me my car back, 90 bucks later and the car is fixed....lol

damn, only 900??? wonder why they are giving me so much compared to you... mines a 96 with 105k miles, in fair condition, but i got full coverage. but yet, how did you get it fixed for 90 dollars??? mine looks a lot worse than a mere 90 dollar fix

I would say totalled. If I was you, I would take the $3,000, but it back from insurance and part it out to get more money back. Thats what I have been doing since my car was totalled by some asshat in October.

I was able to buy my car back for $300 from the insurance company.

Good luck man, and sorry to hear/see it.

At least you walked away from it. do what he says, take the money, buy the car back, and find a good body shop. They can rebuild it.... they have the technology.

That sucks, it seems like 2nd gen DSM's always get hit in that same area. A few months ago I was sick and coming back from seeing the doctor and dropping off a perscription. I live on a busy road and have a wide gravel driveway, so for whatever reason people love to turn around in my driveway despite the big "no turnaround" sign. I go to turn into my drive way and some lady in a dodge pick up with a bunch of kids with her is sitting there in reverse waiting for a chance to back out. Traffic clears up and she dosen't move so I figure she see's me sitting there with my turn signal on. I go to turn in and she starts backing up, hits me right in the driver side door and fender. Fender had to be replaced, door didn't close right and had to be straightned out, and it somehow managed to put a ding in my rocker panel. $1,200 worth of damage. The lady that hit me got a ticket for failing to yield and a ticket for turning around in a private driveway a long with getting sited for the accident lol. Hope you get a new car soon.

Dude. Seriously. Make sure you buy that thing back, no matter what they settle for. If you can take the car and still have $3000 in your pocket BEFORE you part it out, you're not in as bad a position as you think.

I KNOW you have a $2000 race head on that car. Selling the head separate from the cams and gears should net you at least a grand, maybe closer to $1500. If you've got a built bottom end, I don't see any reason why you couldn't get $500 for your forged pistons and rods together. And if you're MTX, there's almost ALWAYS someone on here looking to buy a manual trans for the swap, so you might even pick up another $200 or so for that.

If you can walk away with $4000 in your pocket, here's what I just spotted in your neck of the woods that you might be interested in looking at. Everything here is under $4000.

*This one might be a good idea. If the insurance company gives you $3000, you could buy this car outright, have it towed home, then swap your nice engine into it. Then you could probably sell the head and block out of this car for about $500 between the two of them and, with money made parting out your old car, have $2000 in hand for a turbo kit on this bad boy, which, from the pictures, looks pretty nice to me.

It's a shame you got hosed like you did. I know you're not the most active or experienced member of this community, but you went through hell to get that car to where it was and to have it taken from you like this is bullshit, imo. There's not much I can do for you beyond offer advice from 2500 miles away, but all the cars above are under $4000 and within 300 miles of Turtle Creek, PA. I hope you can make something cool happen.

(I bet that guy with the GS sporting a blown HG isn't exactly beating away offers for it. Give him a call and see if he'd take $1500 cash for the car considering how the engine is toast. If the car is still driveable, fuck it. Offer him $2000 for it and go get that thing, imo.)

Good luck to you, bro. Keep us posted.

well they are offering me 3717, and to buy it back, it would cost 850, so that leaves me with 2867, but i faxed over 9400 worth of receipts tuesday, and today they are claiming they didnt get any of them, like 20 pages or something, so they said to try again faxing it to the adjustor who did my car, so i will try that tomorrow, and hopefully i can get more than that, but thanks driggs, for looking up all them cars, and i am going to buy it back, and use my head because i spent almost 2000 on it like you said, including the cam gears, arp head studs and the 3 layer gasket, so i plan on using that, block is stock, but still in good condition, but its an A/T, but it took some impact, and is probably screwed because i had trouble getting it into park after the accident, so i doubt i could get anything for that, but we will see what happens, thanks for the support everyone ^_^

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, man. You never know. Maybe this all happened so you could get the manual transmission and keep all your other mods. :P

If you get a 4G63, you would have to sell that head, but you could use the funds to handle the basic maintenance and free mods. Of course, if you got a clean 2GNT with a dead engine in it, you could just do the swap like that. There's a lot of different ways to go forward with this deal, but they all start with you getting your car back.

well anyways, i got an update to this... after faxing all my receipts, they only are giving me another 540 dollars, which is crap. so that brought the total up to 4257 + the 500 deductible which they didnt mention before, so thats 4757 - 850 to buy it back, which leaves me with 3900... which sucks, but its better than nothing i guess...

also today, the other insurance company called me (all state) and the lady was talkin to me, askin me questions, she was real nice about it, and was sayin that they will pay me for the day i missed work, and try to pay me 20 dollars a day until i get a car, since i been walkin to work in the cold and snow, and she also mentioned something about payin me liabilty or something for my hospital bill, if i have full tort, which i do, but when i talked to her, i didnt know it, so i dont know how that works, but she said i get to keep that for myself, whatever the amount is, so does anyone know how that works?
