Who sands, primers, paints, and clears bolts? Me evidently.

BTW, this is a small amount of them. Ive done about 38 so far this week.

Definitely meticulous...but I can appreciate the results.

The Eclipse. Its bumper less until next week, so I did this to all the bolts and that little metal thing that the five bolts go into.

Ive also done the clutch/brake reservoir brackets and bolts, various others as well.

Next up is a mirror black ECU. Because I can mainly :P

Sounds like your just trying to keep yourself busy during your downtime. Nothing wrong with that.

I hope the paint sticks when you tighten them.

I prefer to run mine though my bench grinder that has a wire wheel on it and then clear coat.

I don't think that's OCD. I think it's pretty normal.

I use my bolts to hold things on, that's about it. Painter's tape on your sockets?? Er....ok.

The paint sticks fine. Otherwise I wouldnt waste my time.

I mean after your socket has metal on metal contact and you get some engine fluids on them.

Never mind. You will see.

Just so you know, these are all grade 8 chrome socket cap and they still look as good today as they did 2 years ago when I did this firewall.

But what would I know.

My point was that ive done this alot, alot of the bolts on my car have been painted like that for a year now. They still look fine, no paint chipping etc.

And here is a motor done with, for the most part, wire wheeled stock bolts with clear coat. Unless I could use chrome for the purpose.

BTW, your turbo has some rust on it. And looks like some rust on those motor mount bolts too.

I've always thought when I see a clean enigne bay, the owner either bought all new bolts/screws or sandblast them to look brand new.

But I once messed around one time while replacing my front bumper, I took a few rusted bolts and bought some Rustoleum paint flat black from DG. I sprayed them let set for 5 mins the paint dries fast, and its mainly for outdoor furniture, BQ grills and turn the rust into primer but has a clearcoat. I also used used the same one-two dollar can of Rustoleum on stock steelie wheels, for winter tires. All I did was cleaned them with a wire brush and spray the wheels with a rattle can.

Tek, when you mean sand you used a dremel w/ small disc sand each bolt and used primer then clearcoat paint. That takes too long, you must alot of patience to each bolt.

Skip the primer/clear and just use a dremel sand each rusted bolt and spray with Rustoleum and then clean the threads so they won't break. But the head might. There was a few that did break


I would just buy all new ones, most are 10mm with different thread pitch.

The point I was trying to make is that all of the painted parts on my ride are now blistering. My project is now 7 years old and I see what happens over time to parts. I was just trying to lend a hand.
