37396, What was your first project car?
Posted by quicksilver99, Dec-14-08 09:59 PM
This is the one that started it for me:

This is the only pic I have left of the car, er... the engine. old garbage by todays standards but this was the car that really got me into performance. I've had many other turbo cars but in the end I guess I'm still a MOPAR man.

90' dodge shadow ES

2.5L turbo Chrysler engine-common block
Swapped in 555 manual tranny
oliver rods
JE pistons
"Torque Monster" cam with roller rocker conversion
FWD performance stage 5 ECU -added later on-
Chevy 2.02 x 1.60 valves fitted to head
Garret .57 trim T3/T4 on log manifold
whole lot of porting done to head

In the end it made 371 HP and a wopping 419 Ft.lbs torque at the wheels, not the highest numbers by today's standards, but 9 years ago when I was just getting my hands dirty that was still considered high for the average joe building his own 4 cyl.

I never got to race it built unfortunatly, got a 14.5 E.T. out of it stock, motor mounts ripped out of the chassis on the way to the track after we half ass tuned it on the dyno and I was headin to the the track. Now its just another memory sittin in an old friends back yard where he might do something with it someday.

The money I made selling this car actually later became the down-payment on my 99 eclipse. Deffinatly miss it though, I really learned alot from this car.

This will make you feel younger.

1965 Mustang Convertable with a 302 Boss and a Hurst quick shift. That was like over 30 years ago, lol.

88 Isuzu P'up. Rarer off-road package with a factory lift and 33's. The bigger 2.6L I4. It had enough maintenance performed on it to make it a "project".

I miss that damn truck. :( I still see it running around town and is probably closing in on the 400,000 mile mark.

93 GMC Sierra GT

350 ci v8, 33" All-Terrains on Eagle 16" rims, decked out with step bars, tonneau cover, dual exhaust, and a killer stereo. Got the truck in 97, then got the Esi in 2001.

Mine was a 96 Eagle Talon ESi, black, auto tranny. Didn't do a whole lot to it until I had spun a rod bearing and decided to overhaul it for a turbo setup...just never got that far with the turbo. Still have the 96 longblock, swapped it into my 97 Eclipse GS, chassis only/MTX that I picked up off another member here.

see sig. 99RS, bought with less than 20 miles on it, now at 130,000. still looks like new, but for some reason, it's much more fun to drive now }(

First one was a 91' Vw Jetta.. loved that car.. too bad I got stuck with an 8v instead. I still want to go back and find a sweet MKII Gti with a 16v and find the lumpiest, nastiest, cam grind, slam the shit out of it, wide rims, stretched tires, and get a nice glossy black paintjob.

A Triumph GT6 Straight 6 with 3 side draft Strombergs. Those old English cars vibrated so much that every weekend was a project. Loved it though.
