For those of you that know, November 1st the Bee gets a new restoration. Previous one was 26 years old and she was starting to show signs of the patch panels starting to rot.

Today i started to enjoy this....been a rough few days AFTER I FOUND OUT THE MOTOR IS NOT THE ORIGINAL MOTOR AS ADVERTISED 8 YEARS AGO.

remnants of the last restoration.....apparently body shops in South Dakota just pop rivet sheetmetal in spots they dont want to fix correctly. ignore the fact its not even correct metal from a replacement panel.

after 4 hours of heaving, maneuvering and bitching, the motor is out on the floor where it will reside all winter


I bought the car and I was told it was a numbers matching car....this block was made Fed 13th 1970 which makes it a 71 block. It was casted during the night shift at 10pm in St louis plant. So if this is a numbers matching car, your telling me my Superbee didnt get a motor for 2 years? Apparently the stamping numbers indicating the serial number of another car is irrelevant! Oh come on what the fuck. At least it is the correct 383 used.....it did come from a High performance B-body and at least the trans and rear end matches! When i read the numbers, the only feeling I had was wanting the car to just go away.


The K member will get a nice paint or powdercoat when the chassis comes back in 6 months.


Wow, Original core support never damaged. VIN was stamped in the top left facing the motor in 69


Oh that cant be good.....more fucked up repairs. This is the frame side mount of the Z-bar. the Z bar is the large metal bar/rod that your clutch pedal pushes and operates the clutch fork of a manual clutch car. this bracket should be slotted to the top so you can loosen that ball and remove the Z-Bar WITHOUT PULLING THE ENTIRE TRANS.....wtf come on guys, at least do it in a manner where you can service it. Gotta reweld a new piece in before it goes to the body shop.


Thats one large empty engine bay. starting ot really look like a shell now.


So many parts........I am cramming them in the attic but its going to take up so much damn room.

Nah, you dont want to do what i do for a living. You can work or have a life. I work 3000 hours a year thats 1.5 jobs.up until 01 i worked 2 40hr (4160 hrs a year) jobs since 17.

Besides....the coolest hobby is taking what you enjoy and learnign everything you can about it. Everytime you find something you dont know on this site, research it till you can explain all aspect of it. That by far is the best.

Your numbers seem about right, (except for maybe the original purchase price, but I really don't know).

My dad is about asshole deep into a frame off restore of a '70 Stingray drop-top. He thought he could do it for 10k to 12k and my wife (who knows nothing about cars, except for what I have done around her) said no way it could be done for that. She said more like 20k. He finally conceded defeat a while back and admitted to her that the final tally will be at least that. But in his defense he wasn't expecting to but 6k into the engine alone. LOL

Sucks about the numbers Terry. I went to look at a 63 Nova in 2003, for my first car. They wanted 3000, said it was all original, etc. Well it wasnt. I still think I should have bought that car, but oh well.

Looks like it will be great when finished though!

That does suck about not being number matching. I was was on the opposite side of that with the last Camaro I bought (69 RS). Guy said it had a random 4 boly main 350 in it, turned out to be not only the correct block, but everything else on the car was correct too. Had to sell it when I moved, but got more than double what I paid for it and all i did was take it all apart!

Keep us posted on the progress; makes me want another 1st gen f-body...

Fuck......its getting floor pans too! apparently they also thought it was economical to just fiberglass the rotted out pan! pictures in a few days.

Yes i am thinking about it. Few ideas floating around right now. The def idea is that the motor will wait till spring and I get the body back. I am not sure how bad the cost of bodywork will be with the additional work needed and the amount of shit I am taking off thinking that its going to just get replaced.


If you add up all the shit i want to replace.....looks like I am just keeping the body and drivetrain!

Yeah, I looked at all of their work, Superbee should be damn near perfect when its out :)

Since its not a numbers matching car, make it a pro touring car :P

This should be a cool thread to watch ... I have always wanted to see process of a nice restoration.

I have always wanted to do one myself. Maybe one day I will convince my Dad to buy an older Camaro and I will get the chance :)

some body guys just need to be beat. i started school for body work in aug. i already know most of what im doing though. im restoring a 64 impala coupe right now i did a 64 four door when i was 16. but any ways good luck. theres a mopar shop here were i live if you need any thing i can get you his number.
