How many of you have reversed your gear pattern or switched to a "GP" style shifting? I did it today to my bike and I don't know if I like it. I will ride it for a few more days and see if I do but I just thought I would ask and see if anyone else has done it and see what they think. PS: Reverse or GP shift is switching the gear pattern from down 1 up 5 TO up 1 down 5.

I have not, personally; However, my old Polaris ATV had that style of gearing, and I did like it. It's all preference. I would assume it would be far for intuitive for a sport bike, rather that a cruiser.

Do you even know why reversing your gear pattern is done? Do you track? Are you only street?

+1 /\ /\ /\ /\
unless you do alot of track time it really isnt worth the change on the street. but its your bike so whatever works best for you. i did it once a couple years ago but i got frustrated trying to learn the pattern cause whenever i would have to suddenly brake and downshift i always went back to the original ways. just my reactons were on auto pilot. another danger i could see with it on the streets is needing to suddenly accellerate out of a bad situation when your not used to the new shift pattern. you would make the bike slower rather then quicker haha

When I raced bikes I switched the lever around, after that I couldn't ride a bike with the standard pattern. Now 11 years later I ride with the standard pattern with no problems. There is really no benefit to using the GP pattern on the street, unless you call someone who might hop on your bike for a ride blowing it up a benefit lol.

I do not track the bike yet, but I would like to one day down the road. A benefit that I like about this so far is that I'm not as likly going to mis shift, I've done it before and had it hang up. Its easier to push down then pull up. I know the main reason for this is on a track bike that may need to up shift while in a turn at the track but might be leaned over so far that you can't get your foot under it to up shift. I would also like to get used to this shift pattern so IF I ever to track it it won't be strange to me and my reaction will be the correct one. Of course if I don't like it or its too different then I will switch it back. No harm no foul, just wondering what other riders were doing.

i honestly can't really add anything...what was mentioned above is dead on. it's a hell of a lot easier to tap down in a turn than it is up...damn the cold and winter for ruining the track season here...only reason i miss texas...hot til mid november :(
