36244, My weekend at the Roadcourse Posted by cs82685, Oct-14-08 01:03 AM
Well I'll start off by saying I didn't run either car, just went to check it out and of coure I forgot my camera so all I have is a link to the photographers pics for now.

I'll say I had a blast. I went with a buddy of mine from work who races his E46 M3 so he could try to get me into it (it's something I've always wanted to try just never knew the avenue to getting into it). There were plenty of cool cars there (though mostly BMW's as it was a BMWCCA event) Plenty of M3s, a 350Z (my buddies father), GT2s, a pantera and probably my favorite of the bunch a black Scuderia.
My buddy wanted to get me a ride along and decided to convince one of the fastest drivers with one of the fastest cars to do it for me. Fortunately after looking me over and deciding I didn't weigh too much he said he'd take me along. I got strapped in and off we were. The first lap or two had me screaming in my head "BRAKE!" as we were coming up to most turns braking way later than you would think a car could and sticking around the corner at speeds that you feel would be impossible for any vehicle to have traction at on such a turn. After that I relaxed and enjoyed the ride. We were without a doubt one of the quickest cars in the group passing (from what I could tell) every other car in the group at least once in the portion of the 25 minute session he ran before the tank was empty. BTW my ride along was in what I believe was an older 993? (It's the black porsche with the flags on the side in the black group in the link above)
Unfortunately, the 2gnt may be in trouble after an event such as this. I still hope to be able to go with MSnS and E85 before giving up on her for some twisty fun in the Evo, but only time (and money) will tell. Who knows maybe I'll take the 2gnt to a roadcourse or autocross event one day :D

Take the 2gnt to an AutoX event. It's a great way to blow a day.
Also, that's pretty cool you got to ride in the 993. I'm jealous.

I actually ran the Evo this past weekend, for the first time since last year. Felt good to be behind the wheel in anger again, and it was a boatload of fun trying to tontrol the beast while on street tires. Despite being under-suspended, under-braked, under-powered, and under-tired, I managed a 2nd place in my class on sunday. Prepare to open your wallet tho, the Evo is a VERY expensive car to track.

I've gathered any car is expensive to track like this. I may try a few autocross events first before I dive head in into an actual roadcourse.
Pics from my ride:

And a couple I snapped with the blackberry:

do it!
I've tracked my GS three times (Streets of Willow twice, Buttonwillow once) and had a blast. Highlights include making split second decision to break right, left or hold course as an old Z spun right in front of me going into Club Corner @ BW, thinking I'd just grenaded the motor at turn 2 @ SoWS (actually just threw the power steering belt), and getting waved past by a V8 Camaro @ BW after hounding him for a couple laps (slight bit of drizzle nullified his 2X HP advantage).
Good times, good times...

Nice! Just FYI, a buddy of mine ran his EVO up at Lime Rock. Had a lot of fun, did well, but the EVO was a big ole brute through the twisties (this was with brake and handling upgrades). So much so that he is now going to convert his 1g to a road racer instead.
Very cool on the ride along :thumbsup

You guys think this is fun, while you're trying out different forms of racing which requires turning the wheel, don't forget to try out some dirt!

Most fun I've ever had behind the wheel. Just wish there was more of it within five hours of my house. (We're trying to organize!)
