35591, My job sucks ass (rant) Posted by RoninEclipse2G, Sep-02-08 09:46 AM
I need to find a new job.
I am so freaking tired of the crap this place has been pulling lately I'm sure that my time is short in one way or another. I was hired at this dealership a year and a half ago to work in the VW parts department. business was good at first and I was happy living in the upper end of my payplan. I didn't care for a few of the policy's or some of the people I worked under but it wasn't enough to bother me or make me leave. business began to drop off and I was struggling to make ends meet for a while, I thought about checking the grass on the other side of the fence. just as I was about to go looking for a new job they decided to "promote" me to the wholsale department. Wholesale was busy and my payplan increased to match the business and differences of the department. My payplan was based on a monthly average of 325-350k per month of business for the department. Life was good because the department was doing over 400k for the first few months. I was catching up on what I was behind quite rapidly and I was planning on getting my cars running again after everything was caught up.
then they got smart.
the owners saw that our department was making too much money. the payplans got rewritten to reflect the fact that we were doing over 400k. I would have been ok since I was still relatively new and my personal bonus was fairly small compared to everyone else due to my lack or repeat business. once I started getting regular calls it should have evened out and I still would have been better than I was down in the shop.
slight problem, we haven't hit 400k since they adjusted the payplans.
I'm making LESS than I was in the shop and they won't move me back. now they're taking our internet away (I'm sneaking my way past the blocker as I type this) and they're firing people to increase profits and making the wholesale department run the VW retail front counter (I fucking hate the front counter) without paying us extra to be up there.
I'm done with this place. anybody know of good jobs in the colorado/denver area? something hands on preferrably? I'll take a slight pay cut to go through an apprenticeship if I have to.

You might check with deej. He's in your area and I hear he pays well for a quality BJ from time to time. Of course, he knows women who do roller derby and could probably use a punching bag, er, dude to help with the team. :order
Sorry man. No ideas. I just applied at Autozone this morning for a second job to pay off some bills before the holiday. Times is tight.

Depending on the location it's actually not a bad place to work for. Although I quit it last week (I really needed my sleep) it wasn't all that bad. Super easy, laid back and 20% off anything in store that isn't oil, coolant or refrigerant.

I like remembering the numbers for dick customers that call regularly and transferring their calls to in building extensions that don't have handsets.

As someone who actually goes in and gets what he needs, I always hate it when you're in line and they have to answer the phone to listen to Shitty McFuckstain go on and on about some random part and the bullshit story behind it. Newsflash, assmonger: People who got off their ass, checked the computer, and then drove in to pick up the part have more invested than you dialing a number and scratching your balls for a minute while they help us out.
:P

I got written up for ignoring the phones by helping people actually in the store.

it's funny you mention autozone Brian. I was fired from their competetion a year and a half ago because my bitch of a GM decided she didn't like me and accused me of stealing (the kiss of death) they don't pay enough around here and I can't do a second job because it would be totally negated by the child care cost for my little girl.
I went home early and sent in a bunch of job applications online. the one I'd really like is the Jaguar/Porsche dealer that's just north of my current job. I did apply at a few of the local satan's as well (employee cost would freakin kick ass!)
If I could figure out how to scrounge a few bucks together I'd try to do what stangmurdera does, parting cars and scouring junkyards to sell on ebay, forums, etc.

Try a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge dealer or a Mitsubishi and maybe cough cough Honda Dealer. You have a 2g know the ins/outs of the engine.
You have an awesome job eric I'd give my left nut to work in parts Dept of any dealer. lol
If there's a Summit Racing near you should also try them.
Are you ASE if so I bet the mechanics take home maybe 15-20 an hr plus flat fee per job from a dealer. ( this is what some make around here )

So do it. You only live once and you don't have enough time on this planet to waste it by working at some place that makes you want to kill yourself.

Now thats the truth right there. I know exactly what you are going through..I am now unemployed, left the place i was at after 9 years, of 6 day work weeks, and no benefits at all. Getting shorted on my paycheck, even though i am "salary". Ha, yeah right. I've sent out tons of apps and resume's, and had an interview today. It looks good to get the job. As an Automotive Technician, I knew I could find a much better job, with better pay and benefits, from that crappy small business, from a crappy business owner.
Keep your head up, always look to better yourself and your life. Waking up every morning just hating going to work, is just a feeling nobody should have to go through. It really effects your mood and wellbeing. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but if you play your cards right, it will be.

My reccomendation:
If you can find something else, don't do customer service jobs.
Period.

quoted for truth.
put in more apps today, nothing hugely promising right now.
I wish I were an ASE certified mech, I would be 100 times happier with life. it seems like every time I start wrenching and complete a task it's the greatest feeling in the world and I love the sense of completion to a task. I'd go through tech school in a heartbeat if I could get the numbers to crunch in a way that wouldn't destroy me and my family
