35220, Got another car for the track Oh yeah!! Posted by Nightfall, Aug-15-08 06:45 PM
Well I decided to try something different since it's been going so well with my Z24 Cavalier, too good actually. Last week we heard that there was some people putting money up to anybody that could take me out of the race. Sure enough there was somebody there trying pretty hard to wreck me. Got pushed up almost to the wall and then hit in the rear quarter. After the race there was a big argument, my dad almost got into a fight with him before I could get the car back to the trailer lol. Then that guy took a swing at the tech guy for whatever reason and the cops showed up, it was a crazy night for sure. He got fined and banned so I guess that's one less car to worry about.
So here it is, a 99 Dodge Avenger 2.5 auto. Took it out for practice yesterday and it handles great, just hope it's got the power to get me up front. We had to replace the control arms/spindle/hub on the drivers side, rack and the inner tie rod ends just to get it drivable. Also changed the oil, plugs and wires, and replaced the air filter with some screen. I still got a ways to go on it.

I had to do something about the wheels, so I found some off a Nissan Maxima that didn't look too bad, just had to enlarge the center hole a little but they bolted right up.

Free parts, just come pick them up lol.

Yes, plans.
For the record, i hate the z24. HATE.
Worst motor i've ever worked on. The lifters are kickass and the valves are nice and big but whoever designed that motor (says made in canada on the oil pan....) wanted whoever to work on it to slam the fuck out of the door panels with a 3lb sledge. Fuck changing a headgasket. I'd rather drop a fresh motor in than do that shit again.

LOL!! It's not all that bad, I replaced both headgaskets before even taking it to the track, just to be on the safe side. I still have a few more things to strip out, fix the front bumper, weld doors shut, hood/trunk pins etc. I haven't even figured out what colors/design I'm going to use yet, so if anyone wants to offer some ideas, I could use them. I'm also going to do a little custom fabrication for this one, molded fiberglass light covers. I used sheetmetal on the Z, but it's body lines and stuff are pretty flat and squared so it was pretty easy. I'll update with some more pics soon.
