34849, I'm eWhoring, Let's Be Gentle Here... Posted by gadkins1974, Jul-27-08 06:50 PM
Ok.
So I'm getting sick of having a day job and I'm not real keen on playing Oregon's lottery (girlfriend is tho, so I guess that's covered). So I've decided I need to do something to start making money a different way and that means going back to my roots, writing... and being a know-it-all bastard.
I've started a site called DeviantAdvice and am now in the process of pimping it out on the Intarwebs. So feel free to stop on by and check it out to see if it's something you'd tell your friends about. If so, then tell your friends :) And if you know anyone who'd like to buy advertising, I tend to offer pretty good rates and can even consider a special rate if the people tell me a 2gnt'er sent em!
Of course, there's an ulterior motive here as well... feedback. Anything that you like about the site, or -more importantly- don't like would be appreciated. I've found this group to be very demanding, but very fair in its opinions and would love to harness y'all for some help here :)
Again, it's DeviantAdvice:Bad Advice for Good People!

Well, Mr. Onepost, you have a good idea there.
The only problem is it's cluttered and isn't laid out in the best fashion.
Did you know you lose a large percentage of people upon first glance if they don't feel comfortable with the site?
You need to size some things up, maybe even get a good webmaster. The logo is way too huge and takes up too much space.

Gadkins is a good friend of mine. He had a different SN back in the day and changed it. (PM me if you want access to it again, sir.) He's not spamming. He's a legit fellow.
On a related note, Helium.com provides excellent writing opportunities for people who like to write and you can make some money doing so. Granted, it's not enough to pay the bills, but it's nice to see one of your articles published and get a little coin in your account as a result.
Highly recommend Helium. www.helium.com/users/227255.

heh. always defending my honor there. My Hero! *chuckle* I do appreciate it though. As far as Helium goes, I've been working with Hubpages a bit and it's ok, but I don't want to run the risk of getting too far from my actual site. But it's worth looking into though.

I think the logo was one of those things where I was REALLY proud of it (since I did it myself) and wanted it big, but -like the parent of an ugly child- never really saw it's flaw. good suggestion. :)
the layout is something I've been fighting with since inception. I'm still getting the hang of how Joomla works and all that. I love the software package, but admit I need to be a bit more versed in css and the like.
Good suggestions, I appreciate them.

With a website like that the layout needs to be simple simple simple. People naturally don't like to read, and since your website has a bunch of stuff going on, it takes away from the content. Make the writing the center of attention.
EDIT: I like it a lot better now!!

Ok.
So I've tried to clean it up a bit and implement some suggestions. I've already seen the response from burntheblobs (thanks!), so I'm looking at more opinions. Keep em coming folks!
