OK here's the deal...as most of you know I blew my engine. My insurance is going to pay 2800$ minus 1000$ for the deductible for a new motor. Well actually there going to give me 1796.00 so the don't total out the car, if they give me the full amount it would total the car out.

So what would you guys do with 1800$. I have never rebuilt a motor myself, I have changed motors in these cars before many times. I know I can handle the Removal and install but to rebuild not sure I can tackle that alone.

I found this guy on E-bay that sells what seems to be a good deal...let me know your input.

With this I get a 3yr unlimited mileage warranty, and I know I can install it ok.

So what would you guys do with 1800$ plus I have a couple of extra spending money I can throw at this car.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal, but I would want at the least forged internals for the bottom end.

3 year warranty yes, on parts. If you hit a pot hole again and lose yoru oil, your warranty is void. Spin a bearing, void. Then mostly all places now, even if something goes bad, they find ways not to warranty anything. Not saying these people would do that, but thats how alot of places work now. Plus most manufactures only offer a one year warranty on their products anyways.

Take your block and have it machined/bored or whatever you want, have the crank journals turned and get over sized bearings and then get an engine kit from howell, it will cost you $1400 for all that probably and then you have some spare dough to fuck with.

Or total the car, get the money for it and buy it back.

^^^^ what mike said, buying a "new" block from someone isn't worth the money. you can rebuild your own for a few hundred less than that and even put some extra fun into it with the leftovers.

And there is a MAJOR difference between filing a claim on YOUR insurance when the pothole was the responsibility of either the BANK or the CITY. Before you go any further and take a dime from your insurance company, go back and take pictures of this pothole you hit.

If the pothole was what caused the damage to the oil pan, which drained your oil, which smoked your engine, then the parties responsible for the maintenance of the road surface where it was found would be liable to some extent.

If the bank or the city gives you $2000, you get $2000. If your insurance company gives you $2000, you pay them back over the next three years in the form of higher rates.

Even if they've already given you the check, you can give it all back.

I'm only saying this because a claim on your insurance for damages sustained while in motion are ALWAYS filed under COLLISION and if there is no other party involved, it is AUTOMATICALLY YOUR FAULT. Since it wasn't your fault if you couldn't see the massive pothole because it was in the middle of the road and full of water, then don't you think the city should give you some money to cover your engine rather than your insurance company saying, "Well, he wasn't paying attention and hit something and it was $2000."
