Well, I got myself a new hobby now! They opened up a new track and I'm running a car in the compact class. A 94 Chevy Cavalier Z24 w/3.1 auto. I couldn't run an Eclipse because of the rules :( has to be American made. Been working on it for a few weeks and just got my first runs in tonight, it's fucking fantastic! Handles good and is pretty quick, just need to practice some more now. Here's some pics of what I got so far

I don't know why exactly, but the guy at the track said no neons, eclipses or hondas could run. :shrug

I grew up at the dirt track every weekend. It was always a good time.

I'd love to have a dirt late model one day but I'm not made of money. Your looking at 100k plus to get started.

I bet they're just tired of hearing all the Ford/Chevy owners crying about "cheaters" in "rice rockets."

EDIT: Not my type of racing, but real racing on a track with a car you have to trailer in is always cool.

Put an Eagle talon front and rear bumper on. It's been done before to compete in redneck races.

Don't forget the airbag. :P

i thought neons were domestic. lol man those decals.. butt ugly haha

Just got through adding some stripes on the bumper and painting the wing and hood scoops, so it looks a little better now. I don't really like the colors either, but that's the colors of my works logo. It's going to get beat to hell anyway :P

the real question is.. is it fast?

Yes, it is fast! I qualified 2nd out of 21 or so cars. There was a Grand Am, 2 Escort Zx whatevers, a couple Luminas, a Geo lol, Sunbird, another Cavalier, and a few Grand Prixs along with some others. Would have been an S-10 but, well, he shouldv'e know better, he totalled it within the first few laps, of practice :rolleyes I would have won the fast dash(top 4 qualifiers/4 laps)but the glare from the sun was so bad, I thought the white flag was the checkered and let up :bash I just couldn't believe what I done. Started dead last in the heat race and won! I was so excited, I didn't even come back around the track for the picture and trophy lol. It ran hot though, temp gauge was maxed, but not bad enough to damage anything. Turns out the fan wasn't coming on, so me and my Dad wired it directly to the battery and added some more water. I was impressed by the tire psi before and after racing, I had no idea it changed that much. I had 41 in the right front, after racing it was up to 50! I forget the others, but they all increased psi. So I start in the back again for the feature because I won the heat race, and after a few laps of making my way to the front, I make a pass underneath someone, and they try to spin me out! Got pushed sideways but managed to maintain control - no caution. After that all was good. Just made my way to the front the best I could while avoiding accidents, held it and won! I stopped for the pic/trophy this time lol. Along with some engine reving for the crowd, they liked it. It's a weird feeling to have an entire stadium cheer for you, but I loved it. And especially the hot females that smile and wave at you coming of the track! It was a great night, I had so much fun and can't wait to do it again! I'll post up some pics tomorrow of the damage I got :( oh well, it's not my dd :P

sounds like a lot of fun. My buddy does that every friday night. He has like 5 cars or something like that and he says its a blast. Congrats on the win as well.

Come on, it's me. If I didn't give you a hard time you'd think it was the invasion of the body snatchers or something :P

at least you get to go racing, I've gotta wait for the new track to finish being built :(

There are a few cars that have roll cages around the drivers seat, but it's not required as of now. Two cars have racing seats/harnesses in them, which I plan on putting in mine before long. Yeah, I definetly would rather be running on a road course, the Eclipse will be back on the road before too long though :evilgrin

Fast+dirt+no windows+stock seats=stock belts = CRAZY!!!! be safe out there!

Dude. You should consider adding a seat instead of a radio. I'm sure you had that stuff just sitting around, but something to think about. When you're serious about protecting your back from a POS GM seat dropping you back on a whim, check out Sube Sports. They have all kinds of racing seats, some for under $250.
