32595, The post to prove an asshat wrong from tunerz. Posted by eclipse982nrRST, Apr-13-08 06:23 PM
I will keep this short and sweet.
Some kid from tunerz IM'd me last night around midnight telling me I was helping a newbie 2gnt turbo member in the wrong way.
Make a long story short now, this guy has turbo'd 6 n/a cars and claims that it is IMPOSSIBLE to boost without a missing link or a FCD.
He says, as SOON as you hit 1psi, the ECU see's boost and IMMEDIATELY shuts off, 'like running into a wall' was his exact words, the car comes to a stop.
All I need is to prove this ass jockey that it is possible and has been done probably 10 million times from members here.
They drive without a FCD or ML and you CAN boost sometimes, not always without one or the other.
So, voice your opinion please.
Can it be done sometimes or not?
Also, keep in mind, again, he is from Tunerz.

I'm running a T3/T4 at 8 PSI with no problems. If he does a millisecond of research he'll see that the 95 map sensor isnt affected by boost, hence it runs great w/o FCD or ML.

I am talking about a 96-99.

I ran 6-8 psi on my 99 without running a FCD or Missing link. It would never fuel-cut at WOT, but if I let off the throttle a bit (part-throttle boosting), I would finally hit it. It's not like my car all of a sudden stopped in the middle of the road though.

Then you're wrong, they need an FCD or ML. Not all the 96's will fuel cut, but the majority will.

Correct but incorrect.
96-99 DO need FCD's or ML's but without one, you can still sometimes get into boosting without hitting fuel cut everytime.
It is possible, mostly like ^^^ said though, usually only can happen at WOT.

Correct...incorrect, sometimes...everytime, mostly...usually...only. Ok i'm confused!

In my opinion I'd tell the guy to get a 95 map sensor and forget it. My motor is a 96 so I used my old sensor and gave another to my friend and we're both doin fine in boost.

I guess you might be able to run without a FCD...sometimes...but why would you want to? Spending 50 bucks to have a car that runs while boosting "reliably" seems like a no brainier. I guess I don't get why you are fighting this.

The sensor has *nothing* to do with it. it's the ECU that causes fuel cut based on the MAP sensor's input, not the other way around. 95's will playfully ignore MAP sensor voltages above atmospheric, while most other years will freak out and cut fuel because they thing there is something wrong with the sensor.

What he said. And take a step back to listen to what you're trying to argue, Mike. My god. The "kid" on Tuners is right. You are wrong. You've fucked up again.
If you have a 96-99 2GNT, you don't HAVE TO use a FCD, but it would be like saying you don't HAVE TO use more than three lug nuts per wheel. That's damn ignorant, man. If there's time to do it once, there's time to do it right. It's a $50 part. If the guy has a 96-99 and that $50 is too much to spend, then he needs to not be playing with cars.

My 96 Talon never needed a FCD. I ran 2 years and drove the car daily and never once felt any type of fuel cut.
My 97 only feels a tiny hicup and runs fine when entering boost. No actual FUEL CUT.

You don't need either a FCD or a ML Just have Terry build you a Mega Squirt and call it a day.
