32557, Remember the EVO Manifold fiasco? Posted by foggy45, Apr-11-08 05:53 PM
remember when David Buschur said that the Magnus manifold sucked? well david wanted to get all the manifolds together and dyno test them and make the results public right?
turns out that he enlisted the help of D-Sport magazine to help him out and the results are now printed in the May 2008 issue.
they tested: Magnus (the old style one that started this fight) AMS Driven Innovations HKS Kansai Hypertune and a Buschur modified stock manifold
i wish i could list all the results for each manifold but there is SOO much info that i cant type it all here.
so ill sum up: one manifold actually generated +44 peak HP and yes the Magnus manifold got WTFBANME!!
www.dsportmag.com but they dont have the article avaliable to read online yet :(

ok here we go: first info then Pics
test machine was a 2004 RS and was done at Buschaur racing AWD dyno (AWD500SE Mustang) built 2.0 liter short block, BF272 cams, and a buschur racing ported head, and a bushaur racing manifold with a HTA35R turbo the RS posted a best 1/4 mile time of 9.65 @ 151.4 on DOT stree tires and full street trim.
now the factory manifold was superior from idle to 5500 rpm which is nice for s DD but above 5500 rpm is where the aftermarket ones started to shine. therefore all +/- HP will be related to the stock manifold. Powerband HP is 5800-7800 RPM Drivability HP is 3000-7800
so again we have Magnus AMS Driven Innovations HKS Kansai Hypertune Buschur modified stock manifold (stock runners with a 4" plenum)
Magnus- Discontinued powerband -19.4 drivability -26.7
Bushaur stock modified- $?? powerband +7 drivability -23.7
Driven innovation- $949 powerband +12.0 drivability -16.0
AMS performance- $949 powerband +20.2 drivability -11.5
HKS Kansai (cast) - $2,200 powerband +26.2 drivability +0.4
Hypertune- $2,000 powerband +34.8 drivability +5.7 * uses a 75mm TB instead of stock
sorry the individual pages for each manifold turned out like crap and would be better if they were scanned, however i cant do that till monday or tuesday

Thanks for that. :)
I envy Buschar's sense of absolute vindication when that article came out.

yes bulett i know :P
they also said that they are gonna do another review once they get the "New" Magnus manifold in, plus they are going to completely redo ALL of them on a built 2.3 evo as well to see if it changes things.
very cool stuff for the evo peeps to dream about

Interesting how the Buschar mani was probably the 2nd worst performer.
2 grand seems like a lot for such mixed numbers across the band. You are basically paying for some gains above 6k rpm. Interesting story, nevertheless.

note that it wasent their sheet metal manifold but just a modified stock one. they did that to see how a "hacked stock" manifold would compare.

I'd really like to see the torque curves/numbers of each manifold....
