For those who noticed, Dino took the board down this morning. Sure, it's April Fools, but this is far more serious. Many of you do not know this, but since we have ZERO paying sponsors, Dino has been paying for this site out of his own pocket for a couple years, now.

As you can imagine, paying more than $100 a month for a site this big can get old really quick. So since he shut the board down this morning, I have turned it back on and BANNED DINO so he can't get in to take it down again.

Of course, he can still contact the host and have it turned off at that end, but I've also spoken with Juan on the phone and we're prepared for that situation. In the meantime, I could only afford to bring the site back up for one month. In MAY, this site will become a PAY SITE. Dues will be $120 a year or $25 a month.

I hope people will stick with this site through the changes that are coming down the pike. This is scary times for 2GNT.com, but we can get through them.

More details as I have them.

Who would be so cheap as to month-to-month this place? Any funds collected above and beyond what is needed to cover the hosting bills will be re-invested back into the community. Might be a more modern forum layout. Might be free shirts, hats, and decals or even cash payouts for record breakers.

I'd pay $3-$5 a month for the continued use of the site. There is a wealth of knowledge here that is second to none on the intardweb. This site has been invaluable to me on numerous occasions. I can't however justify any more than that with the size of the user base.

You do realize that most paid ads on sites like this are pay-per-click right? Some are pay-per-purchase via referral. I think everyone is taking this with a grain of salt because of the date. But we also realize that the Admins/Mods have been pretty much footing the bill.

The only problem I see with business advertising is, They dont respond. I have been trying to become a sponsor or vendor for over a month and no one responds to my emails here. This can weed out those with Fake usernames, and memebers with multiple names.

I think you guys MODS and ADmin need to have meeting about this situation. Look into google adsense for this site, its a click ad. Pays you for evrytime a person clicks on it. This will help keep 2gnt.com running. Over at Tuners they have google adsense on evry page, so I bet thats why they keep it up running for free.

Fact of the matter is, the vast majority of this site is paid for out of pocket. Donations and vendor support are always very greatly appreciated, but the time spent keeping things running is entirely unpaid.

I have a meeting set up with a number of the moderators and OG members still loyal to this site two weeks from now. We are flying in to Texas to see what we can do to change Dino's mind about things. It's sad that Juan had to die last fall. He's one person who would know what to do right now...

I'm pretty much with the majority on this issue. $25 month/$120 a year is way too much if the cost for keeping the site on a yearly basis is $1200-$1500 a year. even a $15/year membership fee should cover it. (only 100 members needed then) but take the actual number of active users and you have more than enough. perhaps have a fee on the for sale forum. 1% of each sale goes towards paying for the site. (not sure how you could mandate that though, probably be a PITA and more trouble than it's worth...... just an idea)
This site has been great for me and i have learned a lot. no longer have my 2gnt but i still enjoy visiting to see what all is going on.

Eh, I've been abusing this site and the members for years.. never paid a dime. Don't plan on it.. I'm sure I could pimp out Terri to Driggs on a monthly basis and that could make up the $25. Also, the admins need to make sure they're quite fluent in server side programming so that the private information of legit customers is kept private, and members are not sharing logins, or logins being hijacked.

Your hosting bills will increase as well for the VPN. If this is not an April fools, it fits the mold of foolishness quite well :)

I will be traveling to Texas to meet with Dino and a number of the Site Team members to discuss this more in depth in two weeks. If Terry would like, I can make sure he's on speaker phone for the meeting.
