32059, I think I watched someone die today Posted by goalie40, Mar-16-08 09:04 PM
well I was at the beach today. Sunset beach on the north shore. Life guards came flying down the beach a 1/4 mile from us. From what we see they are pulling a person out of the water. Me and my buddy walk over and see life guards. Giving CPR to a person, we watch them for 15ish mins until the ambulance shows up. I don't know if the dude made it. He was foaming at the mouth but I saw no movement from him. It fucked me up for the rest of the day.
I almost drowned in the north shore 2 years ago. Fucking shore breaks. I was 30 sec away from the same fate. As it is I just started going back to the beach a few months ago. Its sad living in Hawaii and not going to the beach.
The life guards where on top of there game. World class I hope dude made it.

Something like that is certainly an introspective and sobering experience. A few years back I was behind two semis; (One to either side) When a S2K cut me off and tried to race in betwen them. The guy driving it clipped one and it sent him under the other. The semi driver hit his breaks and that was all she wrote. When the car got sucked under it sprayed gore all over the front of my car. I never want to see anything like that again.

yeah man its one of the hardest things to get over, especially the first. hardest ones for me are always the children, those tear me up.
whenever it happen in surgery, i go home and give my wife a big hug and tell her i love her. then i either make my favorite food or do somthing that i really enjoy doing, just for my self. your life always seems just a bit better, and things look and tase different after you watch someone die.
try watching a sunrise on the beach after somthing like that and you will understand what i mean, its hard to explain.
if your feeling a conection because he died at the beach? go and pick a good wave and shread it for him. after the ride thank him and tell him that was for him. it should be a bit of a release for you, and less possible guilt (our minds are wierd like that)

Anytime I've watched someone die, it's always made me feel better to be alive.
Better them than me.

I've had a rip current almost take me out twice.
My brain cut off completely so instead of trying to swim with it next to the shore, i tried to fight it and go straight back in. Almost drowned. Got bumped hard by something in the water twice. Could have been a bouy and that's what i kept telling myself. I didn't want to think "it's a shark and i'm going to die".
I haven't been on the beach or in the water since. That was atleast 8 years ago.
Dont fuck with the ocean.
To the op that watched a real-life version of F&F2 where guy got sucked under a semi.....that would have fucked me up for life. Did see road crews scraping a bike rider off a road a while back though. Aparently, he was speeding, lost control and slammed the ground hard killing him instantly. It was gross. Blood everywhere...
Also saw the aftermath of a semi hitting a gran prix about 30 seconds from my house. If me and my friend brian had been 10 minutes earlier getting out of work, that could have been us. The drivers seat was full of blood and guts. Some of which was dripping from the kick pannel and the inside of the door. The semi was missing a good bit of the grill and ds fender. The gran prix was totalled. The speed limit at that intersection is 35mph. Most of the town has a 35mph speed limit.

Not that I'm belittling any of this (I'm not), but our guys overseas are dealing with this shit on a day to day basis. Stuff like this can help you be more aware of how they can be really fucked up when they head home.
The more compelling thing is that the blood and gore that they see, is intentional.

Man i'm glad I haven't had to watch someone die yet. My wife and I were talking about it the other day and she said she saw some old man walking across a busy street get hit by a truck and fly 30ft in the air. She said the guy's brains were sticking out of his head and he was having convulsions. Then a friend of mine told me a few years back that he was waiting for someone in a parking lot of a store along the highway when all of a sudden some guy high on drugs runs out of a hotel and runs across the highway. The messed up part is that he said the guy that ran across made it to the other side without a scratch but the guy's buddy decided to chase after him afterwards and ened up getting hit so hard that he landed on the other side of the highway. My friend said he could see a couple of the guy's ribs sticking out through his shirt as he lay there dead. Seeing something like that happen if front of you has to mess you up.

my best friend drowned about 2 1/2 years ago when on vacation with his gf. No idea how it happened because he was alone for a brief moment and when she came back he was gone. It took a 24 hr police search before they found him at the bottom of the lake. I don't go in water to often anymore.

I was leaving a street race spot downtown about two years ago. Hear a loud sound as I'm driving (thought it was something wrong with my car) look over and see a dude getting shot on the side of the road. It was crazy. I just floored it out of there and found a cop, but of course the cop didn't give a shit.
Watching people die sucks.
