30515, How did you find 2gnt? Posted by cs82685, Jan-04-08 04:49 PM
Random thought popped in my head, but I was curious, how did everyone come across 2gnt?
Myself, I was looking for pictures of eclipses to use as a screensaver. I didn't even know what a forum was until I found this site and tuners. I registered at tuners forgot all about it, found this site and found the shit ton of information on it regarding boosting our cars and fell in love. The whole concept of a forum was new to me and I became addicted reading threads all day and night learning about anything I ever wondered about doing to these cars. Prior to that I knew of hahn and wanted to boost the car, but it came much sooner and at a much cheaper cost than it would have without the help of 2gnt.

I came across 2GNT trying to find sites that had info about mods on the non-turbo eclipses. First forum I ever signed up for.

30520, RE: How did you find 2gnt? Posted by totaleklipse97, Jan-04-08 06:23 PM
I was referred here by other forums for eclipses.. I was on other forums for a few months before I even got the car. Unfortunately I didn't sign up here until about 6 months after I got my car. I read a bunch of threads but it didn't strike me to sign up for a while. So pretty much everyone knows this is the place to go for tech info with a 2g n/t and they let me know that.

I think it was back in 99 one day, I was using a computer at work to see if I couldn't find ideas for how to make my Talon faster. I found the go-fast pages and printed them (since I had no computer at the time). Wish they had a date on them, as I've still got those first pages to this day.
I actually got my own computer and joined just before the stars went away. (Wish we still had them.) :shrug

Interesting question. Would be curious to see which forums people got sent from. I was turned on to 2gnt by my local; CCDSM. Basically they laughed at me when I posted up about my non turbo compact car and sent me here.
The laughter turned......

Back in April of '99, right after I bought my car, I was looking around for info on it. I came across dsm.org. Even though I didn't have a turbo, I read every thread posted to the talon digest. In one post, juan mentions his non-turbo and this site. Been here ever since.

I found this site looking for info on the rear drum to disk conversion on Tuners. I was getting so frustrated with so little info on the 420a compared to the 4g63. Someone told me to try this site and I did!

Been here since.

I met a local member DSMNT96 (angel) back in the summer of 2001 where people met up to race or just hang out and he had just turbo'ed his RS and told me about the site. I had a couple mods and after being on 2gnt I turbo'ed my car within maybe a month or two.

30538, RE: How did you find 2gnt? Posted by BoostedEclipse, Jan-05-08 05:59 AM
Well I bought my car already boosted on 5psi and was told it could hold 10psi. This was before I read up and learned about cars,imports,turbos,2gnt's. So I ran around 10-12psi on stock injectors and bottom end and spun all my bearings. So I decided to rebuild the engine and needed to learn as much as I could about 420a's,internals,turbos,etc. So I got a job at a local machine shop and started looking on the internet and ran across this site and have been here ever since. I would give anything to keep the site up and running for as long as possible, and hope that the site continues to grow.

I was 1/2 way to FL from MA back in 98 to visit my mom and the car (98 GS) suddenly started running like ass. I "asked jeeves" and was sent here. Corbin helped me quite a bit with what I thought was the problem. Ended up being a fuckin spark plug wire. After I got home, I bookmarked the site and never left.

I wanted a talon because i thought they were so badass and i was asking about a 1991 esi at neons.org and someone told me to come here for all the information i would need. I signed up and then got my 1997 and now have this as my homepage.

30549, RE: How did you find 2gnt? Posted by lild14, Jan-05-08 11:37 AM
well, first off, i bought the car not knowing what the hell a rs or gst/gsx was. after browsing around i saw that the most popular engine was the 4g63. so i raced over to the VIN number and right below it said engine: 420a. hmmm i thought, and googled it. the first site it showed was 2gnt.com clicked, learned what the 420a was, became depressed i didnt have a 4g63 (lol), read more about the 420a, soon decided to stick with it. so i signed up and here i am 4 years later, turbod with my own system and loving it :) Thanks 2gnt!

I was searching for lowering springs on the internet, and somehow stumble across this web site back in early 97. I saw that the trend back in the day set by one of the founding members (Jeff Okayasu) was to install a GST muffler on to your RS/GS. It took me a few month before I actually signed up.
In that same year, 2GNT had its first official team meet in the parking lot of Robocar in the city of Walnut. Off the top of my head Karl and his cousin, Juan, Eric C, Marcus, Sal, my GF, and I attended.
I still remember at the Irvine meet when Thomas Kim pulled up in the first ever Star Turbo kit 420a. Oh the memories!!!
I've been here ever since. This place is like a second family. I have made many close friends through this place.
Come to think of it, I remember when Dino was asking BANME!ish questions, and I though he was black due to his log in name Darkone...hahahaha!, I also thought Juan was Mexican...boy was it a shock to see a 6'4" white guy climb out of his lowered GS.

Funny about Dino always being here. It's true. For the 10th Anniversary of 2GNT, we should get the first ten members together in one place for a picture opportunity. Dino's never met Juan that I know of. :P

I found 2gnt through another dsm website back in 2001 and have been lurking ever since. I don't post much but i have gathered more information about my car than i ever thought possible.

30574, RE: How did you find 2gnt? Posted by freelancefool, Jan-06-08 02:22 PM
I was actually referred here shortly after I bought my car from a couple other DSM people in the area. I was asking about a place to find good information for light modification back then. I still haven't dropped my car which is what I originally came here looking for information on. Somehow I managed to do a 5 speed swap instead...
I think I lurked here about 6 months before I actually signed up. Something about watching people get pissed at new guys not searching before posting made me hold off.

Back in 2001, I traded my 91 Maxima and some cash to my buddy for his 96 Talon ESi. Shortly before that my cousin bought a near mint 98 GST which he later drove into the ground which pisses me off, but him and my aunt are the ones who discovered this site and then passed it on to me.
I lurked around and read threads that interested me, but it wasn't until 2003 when I spun a rod bearing and really started to research the related processes to pulling the motor, disassembly, deciding what I wanted to do/use in the build.
I've made some damn good friends here that I wouldn't trade in the world. The rest is history.

That shady fuck wishes he was the first star kit. He is credit with starting star kit group buys.
If memory serves me correctly, Thomas Kim's car was used as the prototype and thus is the first car. I think Eric R. car made it on some magazine back in the day as well.

Damn, it's been such a long time when I first went on this board, back before you had to register a name, you just posted messages (everyone remember "the juice"?).... I think I got on this board through a link from dsm.org, or from a web search way back.
And, I thought I was further back than #11 for this board, but I'll take the #10 spot with pride

Like some others, I found this via the dsm.org link section. At the same time I also signed up for tuners and ended up just liking the vibe here more. And like others I've met some cool people along the way and had a great time laughing at the various things on this board... most notably 9D9 going apeshit whenever people weren't foaming at the mouth over his latest AutoZone-inspired mod.
Ah, good times. :)

I believe I originally found the ezboards(i think it was ezboards)message board. Then a little later www.2gnt.com was started and Juan was looking for a mod for the audio section, nominated myself and got it. Was here for a good while, then left for a short period when I gave the car to my bro in law. Got the car back and came back to the board although I got put in the mod retirement home :)

- Official start date of dedicated web site (other than the forum) - Thu, 7 May 1998
- Hosted on Geocities: www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Launchpad/4524/ntproducts.htm
- Announcement on Talon Digest: Date: Thu, 7 May 1998 09:46:27 -0700 From: Juan Laguna Subject: <2G NT> Hey all you NT guys.... Message-ID: <#57>
Hey,
(All this recent talk of NT pages is making me send this message a little earlier than I'd anticipated.)
I have created a directory for 2G NT products on the web. Basically, products are grouped in general categories, then each product is identified with price and source information.
The site is still being developed, and I hope to add more information over the next while. By no means are all the available products on the market listed, but I hope to get it as comprehensive as I can.
The page is fairly simple, and should be quick loading for those of you with 28.8 modems and the like. The URL for the site is:
w ww.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Launchpad/4524/ntproducts.htm
Check it out, and if you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. (Thanks to the guys in the SoCal group for 'beta testing').
I had some ideas for other sections (FAQs, NT-specific web pages, etc), and may include NT-specific product reviews if its not too much work (the link for product reviews currently takes you to Jeff Habicht's turbo Product Eval page). If other people are going to be developing these resources, let me know so maybe we can work together on it.
Anyways, enjoy.

Now for the 2G NT owners:
I just moved the 2G NT Products page to:
members.xoom.com/ntproducts
I got tired of the stupid banners etc that Geocities pops up, and found Xoom to be a good free alternative. Again, things are still being added. If you have a web page of your own on your car, send me the URL and I'll put it up on the NT Pages link. Please send any comments to me

Oh snap... I can't believe you still have Jeff's old website. I recall staring at that Cool-Uncool picture of the Mitsu at the top of the page contemplating on how nice my eclipse will look once lowered. Then there was the GST muffler mod.
Juan, do you remember at the Robocar meet, everyone had the GST muffler with AEM intake, and you had your green HKS ghetto rigged with metal straps to the stock intake? And you are right, Eric Z, not Eric R had the second star turbo kit in his black GS.
Good times!!!

Found this site looking for 420a specifics.
Didn't want a 4g63t because i was afraid it was going to crankwalk on me.
I shit you not.
I was kicking myself then. Now, i'm kinda glad. I'm learning so much about a motor that nobody really gives a shit about and everyone underestimates. I wouldn't have kept my car as long as i have if it wasn't for the knowledge and support of 2gnt dot com and it's members. If "bullettdsm" hadn't come through with a motor mount for me, my car would still be sitting on jackstands....
Hell, now i might even be picking up a 1gnt if the price is right. DSM daily driver. :wallbash

I actually found the original site on this newfangled invention called Google...lol Or it may have been dogpile.com if anyone remembers that. Found it when looking for mod/repair help on the talon when I first bought it back in the day. I think I am member #31 so I'm not in the top ten but I remember all the old boys. Anyone know what happened to killcreep? Anywho I been here so long I remember when Juan stopped posting...lol
How come when i scroll over juan's name it shows his # as 2?...lol

I bought my ESi shortly after FATF came out and I had to have an eclipse...wound up with a Talon, but I'll take it. Looked for performance parts and every time I typed in something related to parts it brought up threads on 2gnt.com. I lurked for a few weeks reading up and then had to sign up to join in on some Captain Myke photoshop wars...I spent so many lights laughing my ass off while trying to do homework in college.
Don't post much anymore, I mostly only lurk around the pits area, but I just can't leave this place. Like a second home...

When I bought my first 2gnt, the guy who owned it before me told me to check out the site for infoz.
I knew nothing of the 2gnt. I remember reading that it had a 420a, same as a neon, and I was like WTF!?!?!? I walked outside, popped the hood, looked at the block where 420a was stamped and said, "well damn, guess they know what they're talking about" :-o
Seems I was right. :) That was back in Sept. of 2003. In relation to 2008, it doesn't really seem that long ago, but thinking of my life's journey since then, that was a long as fuckin time ago.
