I am planning on getting my first tattoo within the next 2 weeks but I am lost on a design for it. I am doing something on my arm, bicep area towards my shoulder ya know. I want to get something related to my son. I am a terrible fucking artist, so I am coming to you guys to see if anyone has any cool idea's or anything for me.

I am thinking of doing like his foot print from the hospital when he was born, with his birthdate maybe under the print and his initials above it...

Or I though of doing his initials in some small like 3D baby blocks or something.

Anyone have any cool idea's out there?

i wouldnt do the footprint thing if i were you. it will end up looking like a big birthmark and will only get "smudgier" over time. plus, it would probably just look generic and confusing to anyone that didnt know it was your sons. you could always go with a portrait, but thats going to be REALLY expensive because you have to find a top notch artist to do it.

1) do not get anything with any sort of Japanese/Chinese/other idiogramatic language on it. if you do, I will beat you to death (full disclosure: heavily-researched chinese tat on my left leg. took months to prep the stupid thing, but I wouldn't do it again).

2) re "I am a terrible fucking artist." go look up some book on how to draw so at least you have some concept of how art works. you are about to spend a wad of cash for something that -presumably- will be on your body for life, better to understand how art works. ie: skin isn't paper, ergo some things won't translate well (shadows n whatnot)

3) if it's a huge piece (translation: bigger than a dime), get an artist friend to draw it on first and roll around with it for a few days. you can research something until the earth (or Dino's liver) explodes, but it doesn't mean squat till it's on your actual body.

4) see that underarm? yeah, that part that doesn't get to see sun often. yeah, that part's gonna suck.

5) rule 3... I can't stress it enough

other than that, rule 2 is your best bet. once you learn how art "works," then you have a better idea of what to get onto your skin. granted, most "art" is more akin to "crap," but I say that as a fan of Renaissance art and iconography, so wtf do I know anyways?

True but only for the first few minutes then it's just that dull burning pain. The worst I've had yet was in the crook of the arm. Jesus fuck that hurt.

It is not going to be very big at all. And I am deffinately not getting any chinese writing or anything like that.

On your breastplate, no muscle there, pretty much just bone and cartilage. That hurts, trust me.

dont get a footprint...guy at work has his kids footprnts and all I can think of is "what a pussy"

Just do a small banner with his name / initials and birthday. Footprints look like ass once you get a few more years on ya.

I bet man. I have a 3/4 sleeve and when he hit the side of the elbow and whatever bone is reverse of your collar bone I could feel that fucking thing everywhere. It's like you can hear the needle bouncing off the bone lol.

Ink is super addictive though. I can't wait to go back. :7
