29845, Introduction Posted by Yellow2GRS-T, Dec-13-07 02:39 AM
So to start, I have been coming to this site for a couple of months now, just never joined in. This site has got me thru a lot of problems with the car, plus boredom with work (I find it funny when a someone asks the usual question like can i swap a 4G63 into a 420a, cause i know the reaming is about to come hahahaha). Pretty cool site though I have found everything i have needed. Its really helped me so far with my engine rebuild. Ok well que the intro for the car: ... .. . <Info> Factory: 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0L 420a Non turbo Engine 5 speed Trans Fwd
Additions: Engine T3/4 Turbo Boost Controller Godspeed Intercooler 2.5inch Downpipe Blitz BOV Apexi Neo Fuel Controller Vortec SFMU Walbro Fuel Pump Exterior Blitz Body Kit - Molded side Skirt Roof Scoop molded in X-1 Fenders Carbon Fiber Hood Paint: Viper yellow w/ Gold Candy Coat and Silver Flake. I have the car in my garage in pieces. I plan to Start on the rebuild after christmas (drains us all of our money). I plan on doing all the work myself except for the use of a machine shop.> JE Pistons, Rings and Wrist Pins(8.8:1, 88.50 Bore) Eagle Rods Melling Oil Pump Remanufactured crankshaft kit from CI Water pump/Timing Kit APR Head Studs APR Main Studs Full Gasket Kit Crane Cams Crane Valve Springs Fidana Adjustable Cams Stainless Steel Valves Lifters Rockers Titanium Retainers Machine Shop Oil Pan
So i havent figured out exactly where I am getting all the parts from. I was thinking ebay for a secod because i have bought a lot of things off there. I bought the turbo kit from there, which i would highly NOT recomend. The turbo was cheap (had to buy a new one). The External Wastegate sucks, but oh well you get what you pay for so I have learned my lesson.

Crazy. I saw that picture up on the mountain and thought, "Is that Pilot Mountain or whatever in the background? That looks like North Carolina." Then I went back and checked the license plate. I've never been to North Carolina. :P
Not a fan of the body kits, but looks like you've done it up right. No wing, molded in, painted. Not bad. Any reason why you're replacing the crank? Any reason why you're considering CI for anything? I can only think of one person in about six years who has had crank issues and, well, he's one of the few people around here I see as being able to break one.
Cheers

Yea i know the body kit, lol. I got the car for like 1300, the person put a body kit on it and it looked bad. So i went on ebay, bought a new body kit really cheap. I figured if i was going to do it, why not do it right, so i had the paint guy mold it in on the side skirts. I like how it cam out because now its atleast all smooth rather than looking like it was just thrown on there. The fenders were replaced because he had to mold it anyway. I have pic somewhere when i orginally got it, cracks everywhere. I took off atleast an inch of bondo in places (it was bad). I have read a lot bad about CI, i have delt with them a little and it seems like they are getting things worked out for the most part. But i am still hesitant. I plan on upping the boost, i want to aim for somewhere in the 20's. I figured while having the engine torn down why not just do it right. I could get my crank remaned and all. The crank kit is like $239.99 (if i am reading everything correct) so I didnt think that was to bad of a deal. For the most part its protection just in case for the rest of the engine. So far i have the whole thing for parts alone to be about $3,000. I just keep on bouncing back and forth of if i want to just fix it for now (think the problem is rings, spiting out all the oil out of the valve cover breather, plus bad compression tests) or if i want to just go ahead and do it up while i have it apart.

Looks cool I guess. Dont like the roof scoop or paint along the front fender/skirt though.

Just replace the front bumper with a 97-99 OEM bumper. I have had 2 aftermarket fronts and none compare to the OEM 97+ front.

Welcome. I'm not a huge fan of the kit, but there was a time I loved bright yellow, and it looks like whoever did the work did a good job not to mention, I've really really come to like the wingless look during the last year or so. :thumbsup

well i have come to the conclusion that you guys dont like bodykits. lol, Its all good though atleast it doesnt look too ricer. Yea, i am not a fan of wings on them either, so i just shaved it all int the back. I just cant wait to actually drive it again. Its still sitting in the garage in peices. Its still a fun car to drive down the mountains. I cant wait to get it built and crank the boost up.
