29023, 2GNTcommunity equivalent but for the Ford focus? Posted by edxmon, Nov-18-07 02:30 PM
Hi peeps,
my friend just got a new Ford Focus hatchback, and we were wondering if there is another community that specializes in the Focus? He has heard a lot of good things about this forum, and would like to find one just as good for his platform. Thanks in advance :thumbsup

He's fucked to begin with. He bought a Ford to begin with, and now he is trying to find a forum about that thing!?
There is one out there, but I forget the name of it. I know because my wife bought a focus before I knew her and now thats my daily driver. I have some electrical issues with it before, I posted on the board, and it wasnt very much help. Go figure there.
Anyways, there is one out there.

I am sure there is. You can get a focus built motor that puts down 300hp all motor. They have more support than we will ever have.

Not so much of being that "it's a Ford" but realize the crowd that will be associated with the "tuners" of that specific vehicle regardless of Ford, Chevy, Mitsu, Nissan. It's a relatively cheap car for what's on the market and it does have good aftermarket support. It's crowd might be comparable to the Neon crowd a few years back. Your gonna have young incompetent people no matter what platform, some just attract more than others due to the logistics of the market it is geared towards. As for the community feel, I doubt many forums of newer cars will have near the community feel this one has. This forum has been established for quite a long time, and we have a very committed member base. Good luck in searching, try out a few and weed them out for general ignorance, hopefully you find one you like.

Try http://www.focusfanatics.com
Be prepared to wade through quite a bit of bullshit though. The vendors run all the Focus boards.

Crap tons of aftermarket support. One of the better products I've seen for the Focus is the SCT tuning package.
http://www.sctflash.com/
Pricey but allows for full ECU customization for anything under the sun...turbo, nitrous, all motor, etc. Cheaper than a full stand alone too.
Those guys have it easy.

Focii aren't that bad. Very solid feel to them, for the most part. I think it reflects some of Ford's European influences. (Wasn't the Focus in Europe before they brought it over here? Kinda like the Xratty or Sierra?)
In any case, there is a Spec Focus class in rally over here. Not that he would strip, cage, and abuse his new "fuckus," but it's worth mentioning, as it shows the level of support for the platform.
Community? I doubt you'll find this level of brotherhood in too many other places on the nets.

Focaljet is supposed to be pretty good. It's the site that all of the local Focus guys are a part of.

the american focus is crap. My chick almost died in one on the freeway a few months ago. Some jack ass merged into her lane on the freeway getting out of the way she did a slight jerk of the wheel and lost all control of the car. spun 2 times and ended up facing the wrong way on the freeway she was going less than 60.

Proper car control in emergency situations is pretty foreign to most women. She would have done the same thing in any other car.

Truth.
At that speed, car dynamics are a bit "touchy".
Loose the gas and jerk too hard and the rear wheels WILL lose traction. Hitting the brakes too hard with the above will result in the same. Weight transfer. I do enough of it on purpose in "semi-controlled" environments.
Back in focus now: Ecotec.... Look at the support it has in drag racing. The focus is ugly but it can be fast too. Significant power can be made just with basic bolt-ons. It has more of a presence in the spocom world than the 2gnt ever will. We'll blame that on the 4g63 hulking over us while we bask in it's shadow though.
(to the op/focus haters)
Imo, the 2gnt is one of the worst possible sport compact platforms to tune and modify for speed. Specifically because our ecu sucks and our engine sucks. It takes so much money and/or research to do anything worth talking about and at that point, most people either give up and get another car or join the darkside.
