28284, So I went paintballing yesterday Posted by DSMRoadster, Oct-21-07 07:19 PM
First time ever. Friend hooked me up with a nice pimped out SP Ion. I'm thinking there's going to be 45 people there at most.....nope. About 200 people were there. They have 8 different playing fields. I didn't think I was going to amaze anyone or be amazed by anyone, quite contraire. There were people there who spent thousands of dollars on gear and uniform that look just like government issued except they're made for paintball stuff. I show up with my army issued uniform and police issude bp vest and my marine friend came in his government issued uniform. People were looking at us as if we bought it for the game or something because we were decked out with real GI equipment while they had the immitation. There were about 30 people on our team. Most people stayed behind cover and ran out of breath or just complaining about the other guy is out because he got shot. In the meantime my Marine buddy and I are just maneuvering and covering each other from one position to the next. Ahead of everyone by like 20 yards. We thought we were going to get ass raped because paintball is quite different from real life. Needless to say everybody came up to us and was in awe at how effective our tactics were. Some kids said it was like watching a movie. We had a great time. There were some guys out there who took this stuff real serious. I mean fights almost broke out. After about 4 hours, I got tired and started getting more ballsy. I took off my top blouse and had just my short sleeve underamor and the bp vest. My buddy and I started splitting up and created different fire teams. One game everyone had their gun trained on me. I took 8 shots from 10ft away. PAIN! The AGONY and STING! I have a total of 15 welps and bruises. 3 on my thighs near my groin, 7 all over my right arm and 5 on my left arm. But in 1 game, I scored 11 kills. Most everyone had their high speed uber fast paintball spitting gun while I just took clear well aimed shots. It worked just like in real life. If any of you guys ever get the chance to play organized game, I suggest you take it. It's a great time.

I have been playing for over 10 years its a great game. When i lived in california i owned a 7 man speedball field (the blow up kind) with the team i played with.

I haven't got a chance to play in a long time. I do really enjoy it, minus the big time welts and pains. Despite the rules a lot of people still turn their guns up to where your drawing blood from getting hit. V, if you really like paintball you might enjoy airsoft. I have a friend that does a lot of games. They have replica guns based off actual guns, and the little bb's don't hurt as much as a paintball. Unless of course your shot up close with a high velocity gun. You might find some organized games around your area.

Oh yeah, Paintball is great. I have been playing forever. The best tactic in almost all instances is to stay low, but keep moving. I have played both the indoor and outdoor tournaments and they are both great. The worst place to get shot is on the back of the hand or fingers. It hurts! and bleeds about everytime.

i would have to say the most painful is inside of the thigh just below your stuff.. and on the top of the head.

That and the face, I've had them shatter on the mask and pieces go through. Never cheap out on your faceguard.

What you played sounds more like Airsoft than Paintball. Never seen/been in a paintball match that has people in combat cammo and body armor. From experience, hard core paintball guys, hate Airsoft and their play tactics ("...paintball is not a war recreation game..." hehe).
None the less both games are awesome!

somehow I had my supsicion.
airsoft was what we used to shoot at the annoying Afghan kids. Paintball was what left quarter size bruises all over me. I think we're gonna hit the field again in 2 weeks.

I used to play like 4 times a week in highschool. We wore t-shirts and pants no body armor, I mean it doesn't hurt that bad. I would love to get back into it but money is tight right now and the sport has evolved into a really expensive ordeal.

Same reason I haven't played in awhile. When I played it was still cool to have a semi auto spyder TL+ with a dye boomstick (the same equip i have to this day). But paintball is definitely the most fun activity I've ever participated in. Challenge Park Xtreme in joliet, IL is a sick theme type park, they set up an entire burned out city,a mock illinois town (cars, buildings, cloctower, everything). Nothing like crawling on your back around piles of rubble sneaking up behind a guy entrenched in some burned out building, only to stand up JUST outside his peripheral vision and shoot off three shots right to his facemask :-)

The games that are the lamest are the ones where head shots don't count. People peeking around corners and you cant shoot at them LAME! I almost prefer getting shot in the facemask because it doesn't hurt.
Joliet maybe sometime I'll come up and check it out.

man I'd love to play against you DSMroadster. For some reason, I'm a natural at this game. I've only played a few times and I don't have any of the nice equipment, but I easily took out half the opposing team (including the seasoned fellas) by myself the last couple games I've played, and when I'm the last survivor I go Rambo style - especially when the field is trenches - noone ever sees me coming. If I play anyone I want to go against military guys like yourself, love to see your tactics.

in real world experience, I don't shoot a lot. As a squad leader, I control 3 fire teams of 3-4 men and the medic stays close to me as my battle buddy. I'm always with the lead element aka assualt team in bounding situations and ambushes (always lead from the front to inspire, motivate and neutralize the fear). Think of it as a chessboard and I'm the chess master. I tell the teams where to go and which targets are priority. My whole time in Afghanistan with about 40 something firefights in the field and 30 attacks on our 2 football field size forward operating base, I've only emptied 3 thirty round magazines. 200 rounds out of the 249SAW and 60 rounds out of the 240 bravo were under extreme circumstances. My job requires me to assess the situation and make the best decisions possible and keep radio contact with headquarters, my 3 fire teams and close air support. My men on the other hand fired thousands of round each. When I did take shots they were always well aimed. That mentality spilled over to the paintball game. By then it just came naturally. Only difference was I didn't have my well trained fire team. I'm quite positive we would've obliterated the opposing team. I have the US Army Combat Proven seal stamped on my ass along with a Bronze Star with Valor.
ps. However I did call in a shit load of mortar rounds, a couple 500ib bombs and Apache fire on the douche bags.

I'm not saying headshots shouldn't count, quite the contrary, they always should. It's more a matter of tact, in that, should a piece of equipment fail (i.e. goggles/mask) someone could be permenantly blinded. It's just not cool in a friendly or competitive game. Besides, back of the head has less cover and stings more. ;)

I've been nailed in the head a few times. Just because it hurts doesn't mean it shouldn't count. In battle, you get shot in the head, your a goner the same way. If you purposely shoot someone in the head from a short distance thats just kind of being a dick. It all comes back to you though when you get tagged out and they keep shooting at you anyway.

I used to play with a guy that was an ex-marine sniper. I hated being on the other team when matt was there. he had a homebrew custom longrange paint gun. my friend had 20+ acres in the woods so we built some stuff to hide behind out there, but matt would climb the highest fucking tree he could find and pick us off with very unnerving accuracy

I used to play along time ago when pot was cooler than protective equipment (about the same time that Spyder's were cool). We went in nothing more than jeans and shirts, a couple guys wore masks. The worst hit I took was three in a row to my neck, I thought for sure I was out but when I checked my neck there was no paint (just blood :shrug ) so I kept going and scored a hit on the same guy that shot me in the neck with about a 100ft shot through two bushes. I felt pretty proud, course then again I was most assuredly on something too, so take it how you will.

I prefer woodsball over speedball. Then you can actually have a strategy involved. I have a tippmann a5 with a few little upgrades. It gets the job done.

The distance was great enough that I was just aiming FOR HIM, not any specific part. I'd say 10-15 yards over a rock pile. It was outside his peripheral, and if I remember right they clipped the top side ofh is mask just above the glass, and his head. I'm sure they hurt, but I don't remember hitting him in the glass.
