I know that this is non-2GNT but, does anyone know if the tie-rods, sway-bars, lateral links, etc. on any newer truck are solid or hollow? I'm looking for a cheap (free in this case) source for thick walled, weldable steel tubes to use in assorted chassis bracing projects. I have access to old, thrown away tie-rod links and the like that I could grab and cut up for use, but if they're solid all the way through then they won't really be good for what I want to do. Thanks for any help.

Generally, suspension stuff is solid.

As far as I know they are solid. After all it is your steering we're talking about. Definitly don't want that stuff to break for any reason. Certain pieces might be hollow to thread onto other pieces but I think thats about it. :shrug

I woke up this morning and came to work hoping that when I opened this post I'd see a whole lot of "Yeah Keith, the bars that you want to use are hollow and would be perfect for your intentions" but somehow knew that wasn't going to happen. Anyways, thanks for the info guys, I guess I'll just have to scour the metal yards for cheap scrap pieces and hope it doesn't take a year to find suitable stuff :shrug

You ever have to do that, you'd really be amazed at the stuff you find out at metal yards, it's just never what you're looking for when you're looking for it.

Yeah, you'll have to scrounge for that stuff. Suspension and steering are all solid (for good reason).
