I really need to get out of my house, but the cost of living here and going to collage is awesome... free. I'm planning on moving out sometime next year with a roommate, I'm sure all of ya'll have or am going through stress with the damn parents. I got yelled at today from both my mother and step-dad about not picking up roast chicken from the market... I wrote down what she wanted me to get and nowhere did it say chicken, dumbfuck, hah.

Anyways, how much do ya'll pay for rent for like, a 2 room apartment and where?

i pay 525 a month for everything and the place was furnished.

I pay 200, but I live on my best friend's parents property.
Most apts around here are crazy expensive, like nothing under 850.

$600+ utilities, how old are you? If you are under the age of 23 and your parents are willing to let you live at home rent free, TAKE IT! It really sucks struggling through school and having to worry about paying bills too. If you have to move out though, take a good look at who your neighbors are going to be, you have to live with these people too.

$275 +utilities a month with 4 other guys besides myself. 5 bedroom house, 2 baths, two story, good location and only a 5 minute walk to class. Sure we live in a slum but I can live with that. Be careful who you pick for roommates though....if you took one look at my house you would know what im talking about! I too know what you're saying when it comes to living with parents. I've been doing it for 22 years and it just gets to a point where everybody's lives just start to clash and you just need to get out so dont sweat it, they mean well.

I can totally understand this, as most people living on their own will generally tell you the same thing; to live with your parents for as long as you can... which I probably will be doing, it just gets frusterating some times, but I'm just complaining. I was just curious to see what most of ya'll pay a month, seeing as the majority of us 2GNT members are young.

285 Plus utilities. Awesome newer three bedroom house. Living with two other guys. Got a garage full of tools. 10 minute walk to class.

But my loans pay my rent.

I pay around 350 a month with 2 other guys in a 3 bedroom apt here in Spring, TX.

Make sure you can live with the person you would/will be rooming with. I kinda made that mistake. My friends and I moved down here and we got into a little fight and they are both doing their thing with each other and I do my own thing. Sucks, but oh well. It's only a year.

thank god someone finally said it. i havent really spoke to my roomate in 2 months except for "rent's due." over stupid shit. keep in mind, we were basically brothers 2 years ago when we moved in together.

Ya be very careful when moving in with friends, I seen what it did to 2 of my very good friends so I promised myself Id never do it. Basically they were best friends from junior high till dumb shit caused by moving in together made them not talk to each other for about a year and a half.

My situation, Im 25, bought a house about a year and a half ago. I lived at my grandparents house after they moved out for $100/month for like 8 months, When that ended I couldnt see spending money on rent and making my landlord rich so I bit the bullet and bought a house, Best thing I ever did.

I agree, don't ever move in with friends, it's too easy to take your friendship for granted and make them hate you.

Also lay out who will pay for what, who will clean what, how you will handle emergencies and arguments from day 1. After the first day, it becomes progressively harder to talk about these things.

I've lived with roommates from 15 till now (27) and I've always liked it better than living on my own for a few months between roommates. As far as rent, usually $400-600 plus $50-100/mo utilities. California's expensive though.

The situation I like best is to have everything in my name, and pay for everyone's utilities, so it's a flat rate every month for my roommates. This avoids arguments and places a little more stress on me, but it's consistent. A side effect (positive/negative?) is my roommates tend to keep to themselves a little more when I do this.

Hey Dan, what cities would the rent be around $400-$600 here in SoCal? Just curious. I know LB is around that area, but the neighborhood is kinda, uh...scary. :P

That's $400-600 PER person. Seems to be the do-able amount for socal people. Rent for a 2-3bdr is usually $1300-1500ish. :shrug

Easier said than done. I just dont understand these assholes that i live with. One kid has made it almost 2 semesters without doing the dishes once! If you're like me and you can stand it, you end up doing everything yourself.

The only downfall with a situation like this is your bastard roommates buy subway for lunch every day but dont have money to pay for utilities. I have the water, internet, and cable in my name, and my roomies owe me $107 in unpaid bills. Good for nuthin douchebags...anyway, its time to go collect some money.

This is where agreeing on DAY ONE that everyone in the house has to do dishes at least once a month. And agreeing on DAY ONE that should an argument arise over dishes, that the person who didn't do their share would be given 30 days to move out. Changing the rules on him now is impossible. He left a sheetmetal sculpture in the hall I had just walked through to get to the kitchen, turned out the light, and then complained for a week that I had gotten blood all over his sculpture, the kitchen, and the bathroom, without cleaning it up before going to the hospital.

$260 a month +Gas/Electric and Cable. This is a 2 bedroom apartment with a tiny ass kitchen, 1 large bedroom (mine) and 1 small bedroom. I got the large because I moved everything over here from the old house (I called dibbs). Decent place... was furnished, but I told my landlord I have my own stuff.

I've lived with the same guy for 3 years now... We get along because he's a moron, and our exposure to each other is limited, I sometimes don't see him for days, usually for a few minutes before he goes to bed. Hell, at least because of him I can get tires mounted and balanced for free! He doesn't do dishes either.

Bills are in my name and he owes me $100 right now.

LAST YEAR: Lived with 3 other guys (current roommate included), the other 2 were assholes, never did dishes, yet always complained about the mess in the kitchen. (I wash my own shit). That was $200/month +utilities, cable and trash. The place was a complete 100 year old house SHIT HOLE!!!

You guys are lucky. I live at home cause it's at least 1200+ for a 2 bedroom apt. If I wanted anything in the city I live in now (close to work and no rush hour traffic, DC is the suck) it would be over 1500+ for a 2 bedroom. I pay rent at home and I'm saving up to hopefuly get a condo or townhouse, if I ever find a friend to live w/ that I trust.

EDIT: BTW, Chris/silverNT, do you live near Chicago? Surprised you're the only other person who lives in an area w/ a high cost of living so I figure you're near a major city. Being near DC sucks sometimes.

bout 20min from downtown with good traffic. All realestate is nuts out here. Single level homes are selling for $400k, 4-5 bed houses are selling for $800,000 used to $2,500,000 new.

Same here guys. Philadelphia/South Eastern PA area. Crazy prices. The shithole apartments around here are 1000 mth + utilities.

The best part is that it normally costs $2,900 a month, but the guy posted the wrong price on the internet and we are getting quite a discount.

My last place was a 2 bd / 2.5bth two-story apartment, $800/mo, plus $100-350 in utilities depending on the season. I split it with a passive aggressive little fuck like the one Dan described above. He never gave me more than $300/mo. Fucking bastard. And he's surprised i fucked his GF.

I'm planning on moving out this month, my 19th birthday is on the 19th of February, and I'll be moving in with two guys in fox lake, IL. Its somewhat rural, but the 2 bedroom apartment will cost 900/month, so thats 300 per person + bills. I'm still looking for a job that pays decent, god damn retail sucks!!

However my parents are putting me through the local community college,and I plan on going to a university in a few years so this will be a temporary living situation, mostly to just get away from the 'rents and get some freedom/responsibility, and be closer to my girlfriend.

Dude I pay like $675 a month for my town house. the bitch is like 20-30 years old so utilities get up there sometimes. I live with the woman so my "roommate" helps with the utilities and I pay the rent. I need to buy my own damn place but the market out here is crazy too. All the avail housing is jacked on the bubble right now...

bought a house almost a year ago, i pay about 825 for my mortgage plus utilities. i manage to keep the heat at 55 but i use a buttload of electricity for my computers. all in all, i spend probly 1000-1100 a month on living by myself. 3br, 2bath, 2.5 car garage double deep. 10-15 minutes from downtown indy. :-)

i live by myself in a 1100 or 1200(somewhere around there) sq ft. apt. 2 bed. 1.5 bath. a loft and a full garage for $670/month plus electric :P

Mortgage payment is like $2600.00

About 3000.00 with utilities, TV and all that junk.
