27167, ex's 2gnt caught on fire
Posted by Dualgen2, Sep-11-07 03:50 AM
some of you old school guys might remember the girl I dated a couple years back that had a 99 silver gs w/ the oz package back when I had my 2gnt. She called me last night to say that the car blew up and I figured it died but I was in for a surprise when I saw these pictures. She was on her way from Maryland to the Penn State game vs Notre Dame this past weekend and right before she got there her car started smoking from the back and she got out. All of her clothes and everything she brought for the weekend are gone and the car is in some junkyard in PA. I'm going to help her find a car this weekend.

It will buff right out.

Ever since my father had a government Dodge Durango start on fire while driving on the interstate I carry an extinguisher. That would really really suck.

Time for another then right?

X2

That car got f-ed up, doesn't even look like anything is salvagable.

Any before pictures of it?

best buy did put a system in that car back in 2003 I believe. I'm really curious how the fire got started though. I work at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership so I'm dealing w/ the mass recall on the cruise control that caught on fire on 1 car and now 650 million cars get this notice. The one car was 94 Crown Victoria I believe and now I got every little old lady coming in for the recall.

Her first choice is to get a Honda CRV. Don't know if she wants new or used.

nope. It was stock besides a head unit and subs. Black leahter interior and a sunroof. Nice car. I thought about getting it as a DD if she ever got rid of it earlier. She wanted an intake for it back when we dated but it never happened. It's auto to.

the car is at a junkyard in PA somewhere. I doubt she will ever see it again. She lives in Maryland.

I've never seen any 2G catch fire in the rear hatch from OEM equipment. Like Dino, I'd put my money on a shit system install and something grounded or the like. All it would take is one spark to set whatever fuzzy girly clothing she had stashed in the back.

Glad she's OK.

I hope she stays current on the investigation.

That is sad.

But good thing they turned the headlights on for safety.

I agree with the previous comments about a bad sub install probably causing the fire. But, it could have also been caused by a short in the left taillight. Notice how the top left part of the bumper is completely melted off like if that was the main heat source. Probably a bad altezza install. :P

The spoiler collapsed like a deflated pool toy lol! I thought fiberglass held up better than that?

heh that's exactly what I was thinking when I first saw the pick. I thought that can't be an OZ edition its got the small wing and I looked closer and saw that it was just drooping.

I'm tired of putting out car fires for people who spend thousands on car insurance every year but can't spend $30 for a simple extinguisher. Just sayin... Think about it.

it looks like everything from the fender foreward would be salvagable for oem parts.

Does she smoke? Could have been part of a cig getting thrown back in...

she's picking up a 2007 CRV tonight that I looked at w/ her on saturday. White, EX-L model, AWD, and no NAV. Got it at invoice to (about $24 + tax/tags). Pretty nice car for the $.
