26537, Porting Phone Number from Boost to At&t, Possible?
Posted by edxmon, Aug-10-07 11:57 AM
Hey guys, like you guys may know I finally got some cash to get a real phone (w810i, soon to be unbranded). I really want to keep my number but I can't find ANY info to back up my hope that it is even possible. I purchased my phone through LetsTalk.com. During the check out they asked me info about my current provider, and asked for an account number. It was a required field so I couldn't leave it blank, the thing is: Boost does NOT give its customers an account number! I ended up just puting my phone number (with area code) in that field as well, and it let me go through. The only other info that Boost customer care asked me for when I called in was my account password, thats the only other thing that proves I own that number.

I hope it all goes well and at&t is able to port my digits, other wise I'ma be pissed. At&t customer service also told me not to contact boost about this because they may be able to some how make it impossible to port my number. Any one here work for At&t/Cingular ever done a port like this? I need some insight, my phone should be here by monday. Thanks in advance fella's :thumbsup

Whenever I used to work for Cingular wireless you could not port a prepaid number over. Mostly because there is no account name or account number that they can provide. What I would do is keep the boost phone active with almost no minutes on it and change your voicemail so people can have your new number.

Hmm, is there any "Official way" off making that connection of me and this number? I've used my debit card to pay formy minutes almost since day 1, and I have an online account with Boostmobile.com that has my address, name and card number. Like I think
I said before, I even have a password they ask me for every time I add credit over the phone, and that I use to check my balance through the phone itself. If I don't get my number it'll be a sad say :(

You have to have the account number on the phone in order to port the number. Chances are you can't port the number though. If the cell phone company doesn't 'own' the entire line range for a type I or II number the process generally doesn't happen.

Type I being a landline number and type II being a cell phone number. Porting numbers is the biggest pain in the ass I had to deal with.

Hmm weird look at what I found when I logged onto my boost account:

Seems that I DO have an account number after all, and that it IS my phone number with the area code. I don't wanna give myself hopes but, I'm praying this goes through.

As long as you have the account number and all the other pertinent information you should be able to port it. The AT&T rep should be able to check on the port status, but they may have to call the Relo/PAC department in order to find out if there are any problems.

Also, if there are problems it may take a couple of days until you can get an intelligent tech on the phone that knows what they are doing. I don't think much about most of the techs that work for Cingular.

You are right though. The guy I called was a loudmouth redneck (no offense), he wouldn't even listen to me, and just kept telling me what to do and what not to do. Isn't there like a dedicated "Porting Department" or something? He game me a number I jotted down just in case.

The Relo/PAC department is the port department. Most of those people were retards when I worked at Cingular.
