Got pulled over tonight for modified exhaust. $100 ticket :rolleyes
I pull away and drive about a mile and see another cop pull out behind me. lol I pull over and when he asks for my lic and reg, I hand him the ticket and ask if he's going to give me another. He says, "do you want another?" Looks at the ticket and tells me to leave.
Looks like the stock exhaust goes back on tomorrow and start saving for a QTP dp w/cut out...

Sorry to hear about the troubles man. VA Beach area has similar problems with the police there. Anyone in that area knows if they need to go around Atlantic Ave. for any reason, they borrow someone else's car.

Twice in five minutes. Sheesh.

Damn Tony, sucks big time. I didn't think it was that loud when you were at the shootout. I hear louder cars than that on a daily basis around here and no one ever gets a ticket. Hell, cars don't even have exhuasts past the cat and they still don't get a ticket around here. :shrug

What is your exhaust setup? My cousin put a full 3" turbo-back exhaust on his EVO and it's pretty loud at WOT, but cruising it isn't too bad at all. He has gotten pulled over for it before, but that is because he floors it constantly around town.

Blitz exhaust's are one of the loudest aside of buschurs bullet. The muffler design just makes it DEEP while cruising. At WOT, it's silly loud.
Now, as much as this doesn't make sense, adding an intake and cone filter changed my exhaust note. It's much louder now than it was at the shootout. But then again, most of it is probably because the reonated chamber is now full of soot making it pretty much straight through.
I'll probably get a QTP cut out and have it welded into my espelier dp rather that drop $470 on the full QTP dp.
Then I'll have to be REAL careful about having a cop hear it open. Then I'll get busted for like 2 other charges one of them being emissions related which is a HUGE fine...

How much would a good race style catalytic converter quiet it down? I've never seen the underside of an EVO but if it's an easy swap for the test pipe then it sounds a lot cheaper and easier to do.

An aluminum intake will change your exhaust note. It will make it beefier.

Grow old! They won't bug you then.


Is this in Mass or CT? Funny thing I cruised around here loud as hell, white hood with louvers (on a red car), with a white lexan hatch without ever getting pulled over. The wife and I took a cruise up to VT (her in the GST and me in the RS) via Mass. We were tavelling dually (her, a car length behind me) and SHE got pulled over! The cop then talked to me about crap, she got her pink slip (written warning) and off we went. I'm thinking that Mass has more of a hard-on for the muff's than CT.

It was mASS. I got pulled over in CT a few weeks back and got a $244 ticket for doing 15 mph over and he "mentioned" my car being loud but didn't write me up or warning.
How the hell does CT scale their tickets? 15mph over in mASS is a nice even $100. $50 for first 10mph over and $10 per mph over after that...
And yeah Mark, even though I'm 33 yrs old now and don't get pulled over very often because I don't drive like an idiot, I think the wing is an attention magnet for cops and ricers. :rolleyes

That sucks dude. I'm sure when he was writing a ticket for your "modified exhaust", some bank robbery was taking place.

Its nice here, no emissions. My stealth had a complete 3" straight pipe from headers back, with the loudest blow off valve i've ever heard. Cops never even gave me a second look.

Ya no emission laws here either. I see full race cars running around on the street on a regular basis over the summer. The wheelie bars and all. A few guys I know run full flowmaster 40 series on their TA's and they are loud as fucking hell, with no cop problem. A buddy just south of me ran with a O2 dump for years and never once had a problem with cops, even when he got on it. In all the years I've been driving I've only got pulled over one time for loud exhaust and that was in western indiana where they have emission laws and at the time my Jetta had lost the fitting around the DP and was running basically just open downpipe. Sucks because I had to wait a week for the part to be shipped from germany (older VW). It's amazing how strict some places are on modified exhuast and how they usually relate that to sound levels created from the exhaust. Sad thing is, like Turby said a few years ago, most cops are not familiar with how the decible system actually works. They estimate and are usually way off.

That's how it is in detroit. They will give out tint tickets, but rarely exhaust or anything else.

QFT. I took the wing off my SRT-4 for a couple of months and noticed a HUGE difference in how cops and other modified cars drove around me. And my car isn't particularity quiet either. 3" turbo back with no cats or resonators in the way.

yeah, kills me when harleys can tear around with eardrum busting exhausts and LEO's dont even bat an eye.

im running no muffler on my diesel and so far (knocking on wood) i havent had any issues. then again its alot quieters and less "poppy" than a gas engine. and im pretty easy on the tall n skinny (ok well most of the time)

Doh.... that is just rotten luck. I would replace your current set up with a RRE stealth unit, or invest in a few cans of BBQ paint...

I got pulled over a few years ago here in Jersey by a rookie cop who seemed like he had nothing better to do and I asked him that why is it that cops pull over cars with loud exhausts and not guys on harleys? His response was that they have no way of knowing if a harleys exhaust is modified or not but that just by looking at my car he knew it wasn't a factory exhaust. :wary

i've been pulled over and ticketed once for "modified exhuast" the cop was 500 feet behind me, turning onto the street i was on (at night) and i didnt know it, i WOT shifted and threw a huge fireball out the back end of the car...

cop mentioend the fireball, i mentioned that w/a turbo car there is no need for a muffler, we argued, he wrote the ticket, i got off of it.. (per the N.R.S nevada revised statute)...

Chill, Tony. Back in late 95, I was pulled over twice inside of 30 minutes. I got a ticket for 97 in a 55 and then one for 80 in a 55 (which was bullshit, since I was stuck behind blue hair granny in a K-car doing 56 with a cruiser right on my six the whole time). Granted, it was only $255 for both of those tickets at the time, but they were my third and fourth tickets that year. I almost lost my license that year.

yeah, ive heard the turbo/muffler thing. supposedly in texas a turbo counts as a muffling device on a diesel. heard of a few people using that on their tix and the charges were thrown out

Its no fun driving a dsm and being paranoid. I barely drive my car at all. So to fix that, this weekend i am welding in my qtp and throwing the stock exhaust back on the car. Should be fun.

I threw the silencer back in for now and am debating what I should do next. It's definitely quiet now, but also a hell of alot slower. hehe.
QTP seems like the routs I'll be going but I don't like the fact that the motors on alot of the cutouts suck ass and die after little use.
I'll worry about it after my court date...

ATP's boost activated unit gets rid of that worry. Of course the damn thing has been out of stock for months and they don't know when it will be back in stock. I was hoping to hold on for this, but IDK; I may just get a drop in filter and a flash in stock form.

I think I remember reading somewhere it opens at somewhere between 8-12psi but I forget. For us you are right, we would need a MBC if we wanted it set higher. It is pretty expensive but when you look at wastegates (since that's basically what it is) I suppose it's not like it's that expensive, I bet it's cheaper than a 60mm tial wastegate, just for comparison of pricing on a product that does the same thing
