A former professor and role model of mine, he wife just passed away.

I knew these two very well, and the news of her passing hit me really hard. First I hear that one professor (Dr. Age) had a heart attack in class and passed away en-route to the hospital, that was sickening enough until I heard about another professor's wife.

Even though I graduated a while ago and am rarely in my old college town, I still consider them both extended family.
