24387, Going to Lake Tahoe in a couple weeks (Emerald Bay) which route to take? Posted by edxmon, May-22-07 04:24 PM
Man this is why I love this place, no matter what question, problem, or doubt I may have, I know some one on here can answer it.
Any who, like the tittle says, im taking a summer trip with my buddies June 23-26, from San Diego,to Davis(spending the night there, one of my best friends has a house there), from Davis to Lake Tahoe. Obviously we're going to take the I-5 north 'till Davis. But I hear mixed opinions on whether to take the 50 or the 80 east towards the lake. I hear that 50 is a one lane road, so if there is traffic we are fuckished, but is IS the shortest way there. On the other side there is I-80 which is the longer way to get there, BUT is a normal freeway (multi lane) Does any one have any experience getting there, its our first trip there, and we want it to go as smooth as possible. Thanks in advance :thumbsup

Plot the route on Google Maps. You can view traffic conditions on the maps now. You're right though, this place is good for much more than just cars. People just have to prove they're not complete fucking choads and they will get a lot out of this community.

Well they say the 1st step towards recovery is admittance.

it depends really...
To north shore(truckee/reno area) if youre coming from davis, you would go 80 east towards sacraments and merge onto 80 east towards reno. on this route, we typically stop in auburn to gas up before proceeding up the mtn. this is different that the 80 towards south lake tahoe. youll end up on opposite sides of the lake. we go on it all the time and its really simple and straightfowards, but if youre goin to the southshore, it will take a lot longer cause youll have to drive around the lake. pretty but time consuming
to southshore from davis go 80E towards sacramento and then 80E towards south lake tahoe. then the 50e which takes you to the southern part of tahoe. i've gone on this route a couple of times and its alright. definately less to see and whatnot but itll get u there. not sure on the time tho. i wouldnt expect traffic to be bad since its the summer months. since youre goin this direction, it wouldnt hurt takin this route
if you were wondering, there are two 80 easts because the one towards south lake tahoe is considered the business loop.
my dad works up in the north shore during the winters so he's really familiar with the area. ill ask him what he thinks and get back to ya

What's a "simmer trip"? Is that some new hip term?
And oh yeah, use mapquest.

Thanks for the spell check, but I have already used all the direction websites, mapquest/yahoo maps/google maps chooses one route over the other AND DOES NOT EXPLAIN WHY. I talked to people who actually have driven this route and have disagreed with the directions give, that is why I prefer asking leaving breathing people who will give me the answer I was looking for.
And oh yea, thanks for the suggestion :thumbsup
