Tragic loss. My thoughts go out to the pilots family and his squadron-mates.

It is pretty horrific to see such a thing. I was at the 1989 airshow in Toronto when two of the RCAF Snowbirds collided. One pilot was able to eject, but the other jet augered into the lake at >250mph. I saw it go in. Could even hear the sound it made.

(note - the pic is of the plane of the surviving pilot, who controlled his crippled, burning jet as long as he could before bailing out so that it wouldn't crash onto the spectators)
