23339, The 2JZ Project!
Posted by busch4103, Apr-21-07 05:59 PM
Well most of you don't know me and I don't have any pics of my 2gen posted yet but I just wanted to boast a little. My buddy is doing a common swap on his 240 with an RB26 Skyline motor. I originally wanted to buy a 350Z and sell the eclipse but I like the eclipse too much so I've now decided to keep it and scratch the 350Z thought. After pricing the 2JZ supra motors I now plan to do the motor swap and custom fabricate the drive train and rear end. It'll be expensive but nothing I can't handle. One thing is for sure the car should suprise some people when complete. It will not go under construction untill I build my shop, so I'm looking at about a year to start. I'll defintely take as many before and after pics and as soon as it's complete I'll post for everyone to check out. Well thanks for reading and if you have any input or thoughts please feel free to share.

Jimmy

You're bragging a year in advance... come on.

So you think you have enough money to do a 2jz swap, yet you had to price out motors? I'm here to tell you if the price of the motor was an issue, you AREN'T going to make it.

Can we lock the thread for a year?

Just delete it. Benchracing/ enging building/ swap... oh wait, he doesnt even have a bench yet, still has to build the garage to house the bench for bench racing...

Well, that just goes to show how many people doubt you. It's nothing personal, it's just a lot of people talk before anything happens.

Prove us wrong if you will.

2gnt is a "we like to see it before we belive" it type group. Like they said, theres alot of talk.. not much walk.

Here's a tip: Post what you HAVE done that gives you the experience, know-how, and ingenuity to complete this task successfully? These kind of swaps aren't for beginners or the common-modder. Its more like a business investment with the amount of money you'll spend on it.

You got 20 to 30 grand? The 2 guys that have done the 2JZ in the S2000 spent A LOT of $ on all the custom fab work and mainly the parts themselves are a crapload of $ and this is on a car that is already RWD. Also "your friend w/ the RB26". That's not a common swap in a 240 because it's also super expensive. If someone swaps a RB motor in a 240 instead of a SR20DET they swap the RB20 or RB25.

The RB26 happens often enough, but the oilpan usually has to be exchanged with the RB25's because it mount's all the AWD stuff and is heavy/hard to fit. This wouldn't be the most cost-effective swap, but if you got it together it would definately be a screamer. Personally though, something interchanging brands rubs me the wrong way (except for that Starion with a 5.0 that I want to build, that idea makes my pants tight)

Good luck, but if you really want to build an unusual 2gnt, why don't you look into those Chrysler Midget motors. If I remember right there are a couple examples in the drag scene putting down well over 1200 hp.

Most people "pricing out" anything dealing with supras / engine swaps can not nearly afford it. Thats the kind of thing you drop at a shop and hand over your credit card and first born then wait months for it to be finished.

It would be cool to see the engine in a 2gnt, but that's a hell of a job.

unless its going in sideways, good luck getting the hood to close.

Alright well I'm totally feeding off the negativety. As I said before I havn't been a member here long so most don't know me. The point of waiting for the shop to go up is the buddy of mine and I are going in an it together. I've already been hooked of with the shop that can do the mesurments for the custom mount job for the motor and another shop to fab the rear end of the supra and rear suspension plus drive shaft. Yes I know that this will cost me around 40 to 50 thousand thats fine because in the end I'll be loving the results. Not to say that there might be a possibility that it could not be done, but really u can do anything to anything it just depends on the kind of cash u wanna drop in it. It's all about the individual and what they want. The reason I posted so far in advance is for leaway. I'll probably start sooner than a year and I wanted really to see if anyone would be posting whether this has been done before with this particular motor. I know it's alot of fabing and cuting and reshaping of the engine compartment and probably having to extend it. Lots and lots of changes. And to the remark of "good luck shutting ur hood." Do you think I couldn't find a hood that would close over this with the knwowledge of what is being done to it in the first place. And now it isn't going in sideways, lmao. Why would that be done. Any who as the progress moves on I'll post pics. Thanks for remarks anyways.

Jimmy

Also the rb25 and rb26 in the 240 is common enough that a shop here custom makes all the stuff for his swap to hook right up to his rear end. He'll have to beef the rear to handle it, but that comes with doing swaps.

And after you're done with the swap...

Might as well buy a supra IMO instead of blow all that money on trying to attempt a motorswap in a 2GNT . Or better yet, build the most powerful 420a in an eclipse ever. That would be a lot cooler.

that might go in my sig.

for that much money, Id rather have a Supra. I love my eclipse because it reminds me of a Supra's lines, but Id rather have a Supra.

If you got all this money, why not get a Supra and piss the world off by dropping a 420A into it?

Lmao, love the comment. The reason I would rather blow the money on the eclipse is personal choice. Not everybody understands it, some love the idea, some ask why, and some hate it BUT, it's what I want to do. Dunno, just guess it gets me excited to think about pulling up to cars outa my class and leaving them or at least hanging. Also I still havn't found where this has been done yet.

Ok then, good luck on having the car still look like an eclipse after you but a hood on it that bulges up retardedly in the center.

I don't see any evidence of intelligent life from your posts.

You just compared this to your idea? An Rb into a 240 is like a k20 into a crx. A 2JZ into a 2gnt is like two men having sex.

Anyone remember those busch beer commercials where they open the can and its like this loud "BUUUSSSSSCCCCCHHHHHHHH" sound? i hear that shit every time i read this guy posts. Maybe i have a brain tumor tho.

heh. Maybe you could get a custom show off valve on your pending 2jz eclipse so it makes that sound.
