I've been stuck in this chair with my eyes glued to this monitor scanning documents all day. The only physical activity I've gotten is from the moments when I need to get up and walk across the office to photocopy a grid. I'm about ready to hang myself with the keyboard. How do you guys do it?!? I've been staring at this monitor for so long that there's a haze of white around my peripheral vision. I can't even think straight anymore. Man was not meant to live inside an office 9 hours at a time, keeping a man in a cubicle is like keeping a cow inside a small box it's whole life, sure it's tasty, but it's just not right!

My fingers are stained orange from the cheese of Cheetos, the only sustanance I've had all day. I've consumed nearly a full 12-pack of Pepsi. I don't know what's going on.

Is there a secret to this, Cause I'm not used to this kind of work, I'm a field worker dammit, I long for the open road. I dream of a day when man and computer can walk hand in hand through pastures of milk and honey.

p.s. man, you just need to find things to occupy yourself with. There's PLENTY to do online if you have access there, which it seems you do. Also you might want to invest in a small ball to play with, a stress ball maybe. Oh, and a Ipod can make the hours fly, especially the latest video ipods. Watch little movies while you're there.

Just don't go shootin' the place up, lol, cuz thats no fun.

I don't know about that. I've been stuck at this desk job for like 2 years and a couple of weeks ago while I was looking around trying to find something to do, this popped up.

Here's a solution: don't work there or at least find a job that is not 100% office environment. One thing I learned about my future career is that I don't want it to be 100% all office work.

8 hours? i sit at a desk for about 12 hours a day, 4 days straight. no biggie really.

I'm a field worker, I spend 90% of my time driving aimlessly about the county. You take me and throw me into a closed environment like this and I don't know what to do with myself.

A few things I have noticed about the regular office guys is that;

They do not fuck around with their coffee. I was a regular Starbucks addict for years before starting this job, I eventually worked myself up to the point that I'd add 4 shots of espresso to any drink I ordered and it had little to no effect on me. The first cup of coffee I ever drank here screwed me up! I was wired for three days off that one cup.

They would barter their own mothers away for sunlight, it's almost as if their mole-people. I see them moping around and when I mention that we're leaving for the day I have repeatedly had my co-workers beg me to take them with me.

The Roach Coach is GOLD! There is a swarm downstairs everyday to the Roach Coach, and if you get in the way, you're toast. The Roach Coach stopped coming for approx. a month. When he finally returned I looked out the window and said, in a hushed voice, "Huh, the Roach Coach is back, and immediately people started stumbling out of cubicles to the window, with the look of hope in their eye's. When I went to find Charlie to tell him, I couldn't find him anywhere, till I looked back out the window and saw him their as first in line.

And my favorite thing about the office is the fact that cubicles turn people into prairie dogs. If something happens, three heads instantly pop-up to see what is going on. It's like being at the Zoo.

i will agree with most of that. we dont have a roach coach since we are a closed facility but one of my old jobs did. screw a bunch of cubes, i like my office.

i wouldnt waste my money on that crap, nor coffee.

drive a taxi for twelve hours for 5-6 days a week in las vegas traffic and then complain.

wow, you guys got it bad. i load planes and stuff. most the time you stand around waiting for people to board. after you push the plane out, you goto the break room for 1 to 1 1/2 hours and watch tv, sleep or eat. then go out and work another flight. best job ive ever had.

i would agree, i worked at fedex for almost 2 years. the only part that sucked was it was a 5 day a week part time job, we worked most holidays, and if the weather was bad, you were still out in it. i liked the job, but i like my desk job better. if i didnt have to deal with the weather and could get full time, i would be back at the airport right now.

Damn Keith... I feel like that when im in your "city"...
