22612, i love diesel tuning!

so yeah, ~$500 and 3 hours later i have at the touch of a button an extra 120hp and 350 ft/lbs of torque. bringing overall power from 215/420 to 335/770. i think ill probaby stop in the 500hp range which wont be hard at all. new injectors, an adjustable boost elbow (a primitave MBC) pushing around 35psi, and stack another box on and ill be set.

add to that a stock 3" exhaust (moving up to 4" soon), straight pipe, a turbo (hx35) that could eat a small child, and almost non-existant a/f worries im in heaven! no BOV, but you can sure hear the turbo from both ends. i havent had the radio on in a month and i go all through my day making turbo noises.

i miss the sexiness of my 2gnt, but this is sexy on a whole different level!

anyone else on here into diesels?

I was able top test drive a couple turbo diesels at the auto show in motion here in chicago. Biggest thing you notice is how decieving they are. Step on the pedal, hear this loud ass spool and the truck lurches forward, its scary the first time you do it. If I could afford the gas, I'd probably get one.

yeah, its pretty funny. most people label diesel trucks as slow and clunky. its hilarious to smoke someone in a 9,000# truck at the stop light then latch onto a trailer and totally forget its there.

in addition to adjustability the chip came with a monitor that has the ability to display EGT, fuel pressure, trans temp, oil temp, oil pressure, fuel temp, intake temp, boost, coolant temp, RPM, corrected speed, voltage, etc etc. and it will automatically start to defuel if your EGT's or boost get too high. also has alarms as well as 1/4 mile and 0=60. its like a SAFC, a whole set of gauges, and a g-tech (minus the HP ratings) all in one!

The part about modifying turbo deisels that really caught me off guard was the EGT measuring. Diesels Idle at appx 200 degrees, that is amazing when you compare to a turbo gas motor.

yup, and whats even weirder is when the EGT's get too high on a diesel the computer will take away fuel instead of add more to the mix. since we lack a throttle plate the turbo must be slowed down. kinda backwards from a gasser where you want more fuel to cool things off.

oh and no more spark plugs...EVAR!

and cruising at 18-2200 rpm's (depending on gearing) on the highway is great. not to mention who cares about running pig rich. once the turbo spools it will clear up!
