21610, Eclipse replaced by a Z4 Posted by Mannyyy, Mar-03-07 03:19 PM
Well I officially sold my 96 GS about two weeks ago. It had become my 'beater car' after I purchased my BMW Z4 last September. But it didn't make sense to have the Eclipse rusting away outside, and decided to give it a chance of a better home.
You would not believe the amount of attention it received when I put the for sale sign on it! It sold after just three hours to a guy who had a 2001 Eclipse and prefered the 2G. I start to believe these cars, the few in mint condition, will become classics. Anyway, it was a good car while I had it, and it will be missed.

I agree with you, the few that do stay minty will be worth quite a bit of money when these cars become near extinct. Obviously, it would be a while until that happens, but at the rate these cars are showing up on ebay riced out, it may happen soon.
Damn, your car was clean. Nice beamer.

Did you get the "sport" package of the Z4? Was looking at them for the wife and took one out with the package. Nice, tight little car. Hmm, you seem to be partial to black, lol.

Damn your eclipse was CLEAN!! Nice move on the bimmer though. I have always been partial to black BMW's. So far what do you think about the Z4, in terms of accel and handling?

I concur, that is one CLEAN 2G, hope it went to a good home. Did you sell the car AND give the guy the url to here?

No, it has the 18" staggered sport wheels, but no sports package. The stock runflat tires suck, so I plan on changing them as soon as they start to wear out. Even then, the handling is amazing. The 3.0 liter M54 is nice and smooth all the way to redline, very similar to a 350z which I also test drove a couple of times. Best of all, I can now take speed bumps and driveways like a normal person ;-)

Oops, no I didn't give the guy the URL. Since it's the first time I sold a car I was mostly busy trying to make sure all the paperwork needed was signed and stuff. Maybe he'll find it :)
As for getting attention, YES. I had people at work, whom I didn't even know, suddenly come up to me and they knew my name and what car I drove. A guy in his 80's, a woman in her 30's, kids playing in front lawns pointing and yelling 'wow!'... It was almost a little too much at first, but I got used to it.
CBCC for life! :thumbsup
