21413, Need help on deciding on a new car!? 04-06 Posted by shuwa29, Feb-26-07 07:54 PM
well as most of you know, i am deployed over in iraq right now. by the time i'm done with this deployment i'll have a good bit of money saved up and since i sold the 2gnt and the bike, i will need to pick up a new whip when i get back to the states and have her shipped over to germany. right now, i'm trying to stay under $25,000 and with 2003-2006 and i'm looking for something that is sporty/luxorious. my top choice was the bmw m3 but those are still around 30-35K for a 2004. after doing some more research, i came across a new favorite. infiniti g35 coupe 6sp with the 293hp motor. i have also been looking at the 350z, some audi's and volvo's and saab's. but again, i still got many many months here and plenty of time to be persuaded. so please, post up and vote!!! TIA.

Why not just spend a lil bit more money and buy an EVO FQ300. You wouldn't have to have anything shipped as there not sold in the US. x( ...Actually thinking about it idk that last year the made it but the one in a link is an 02. So it could be in your price range.

well since you all keep on talking about evo's, here's why i didn't put up evo's or sti's up on the poll:
1. i'm trying to get out of my tuner phase 2. the g35 already has 280 hp or 293 hp depending on which motor i get 3. i know with the evo's/sti's, i'll drop a lot of money into them 4. only mods i want to do are stereo, rims, and maybe intake, exhaust, and suspension
i will say this though. i only plan on being in germany for 3 years. after germany, i am going to try to get an assignment to okinawi or misawa, japan. so we all know what that means...r34 should be availible at a very reasonable price :)

Buy whatever you want. You'll mod ANY vehicle you own, it's in your blood. It's in ALL our blood.
You say maybe intake and exhaust, stereo, rims. Once you're there, the car will get boring and you'll need to do something else to make it new to you again. Nothing's ever 'enough'.
I'm not a fan of the benz, audio, BMW, or the infinity, but the G35 is okay.
You want something your not going to mod, buy a truck.

Since you're over on the good side of the planet for cars, I've got three letters for you. GTR.
They stopped making them in 02' but dammit who cares.

For the $ you want to spend you would be getting all used cars and the lower end ones to. BMW (3 series), Mercedes (C-Class) and Audi (A4). G35 is nice but also used. I'll throw in my car (legacy gt sedan), which was about 26,500 brand new w/ no options needed for the GT model. Decent power (250HP), AWD, good handling, nice exterior IMO (w/ the hood scoop on the GT model), nice interior and has plenty of acces. you would find in those other luxury cars you listed (heated seats, dual climate control, 6CD in dash, etc.) Even the Legacy i limited had most of those same options w/o the turbo engine and was just under $22,000 brand new. Also since I work in the car business I can tell you that it's a lot cheaper to maintain a Subaru instead of those high end lux cars, although BMW does offer some plan where I believe they cover all services, brakes and maybe even tires, but I think it's when you buy brand new. We charge $109 an hour for our Land Rovers and Jaguars and most BMW, Audi dealers charge the same. W/ a used vehicle you could need to replace the brakes or tires soon after purchase. In maryland it's not hard to pass used cars as long as brakes and tires are w/in spec and I have seen plenty of people replaced brakes and/or tires w/in months of purchasing there car because the specs are pretty low. Good luck w/ your decision.

How's about a legacy 2.5 gt. For a 4 door I think they're pretty sweet would probably be easier to stay away from modding than a g35/z.
If you were sticking to the cars you posted I'd definetly say G35 they're nice to ride in and I absolutely love their exhaust note.

another reason why i put the g35 up top was because infiniti is opening up shops in europe in 2008. right around the time i'll be getting to germany. as for tires and brakes and all that good stuff, i'll be doing that myself. almost 10 years with my 2gnt before i sold her so i got the mechanical knowledge. but yeah, the more i see the g35 pics, the more i want one. so if i do end up getting it, then this fall when i come home, i'll pick one up, take it back to texas, then have her shipped and waiting for me in germany. damn it time needs to speed the hell up!!!

How about a new(er) GTO.
That would be my choice other than an EVO.

spec b? 6spd, better brakes, suspension, wheels but wasn't worth the extra $6,000 IMO.

Personally, I would opt for something nice on the local market once you get to Germany. Hell. You could order up a brand new, lower model 3-series and pick it up from the factory while you're there. Wouldn't that be a nice memory down the line! Then you could sell it before you PCS and pick up that R34 when you get to Japan.
Back to the truck, though, ever been to Germany before? I'm thinking you have. How many full-sized Chevys, Fords or Dodges have you seen rolling around off base? Not many, if any, imo. I would suggest that, if you bring something to Germany from the States, you bring something that a national is going to be crazy about. The Infiniti might be a good idea in this respect, but if you can post up a "rare" car for sale over there before you PCS out, you stand to get top dollar for it and get the looks while you drive it.
Imagine yourself in a Silverado - Air Force Blue bagged on some deep dish 20s, a plush leather interior, bumpin' system, and some subtle performance mods to really allow it to stretch it's legs on the 'Bahn. The fellas on base will respect you for having such a damn fine slice of Americana over there, you'll have the comfort and power when rolling down to Oktoberfest, and it gas prices or not, it will fetch top dollar when you go to sell it. Either some NCO who had to sell his truck to ship the minivan over there so he could cart the kids back and forth to base from out on the economy will be drooling over it, or some local national will be hard up to be the only guy in Baden-Baden rolling a Silverado to the sportplatz.
Just my take on it. Let me know when whatever you get is heading to Germany. I want to be sure to be hiding in the trunk before it ships. Wish I could look forward to going "home" in the near future...
EDIT: Something like this would sell in a heartbeat (no pun intended).

And don't forget, you can even get a powerful turbo diesel and save at the pump while you're there. That would make an even more appealing purchase for a national...

The truck will stand out.. but gas will KILL you. its bad enough here.. over there its ridiculous. I love the g35.. thus it would be my choice, but if you can extend that price range get the new one (coming this summer).. the re-design makes it look 10x better.
