20219, fix-it ticket? Posted by 96rs-t, Jan-20-07 07:02 PM
I was cited with one of these tickets for "modified exhaust." Anyhow, I could have sworn modifying exhaust in cali is legal as long as it doesn't exceed 95 decibals. Anyhow I looked it up and I think I'm right, unless I'm reading outdated material and there was a new law enacted.
Well, I lost my ticket and just found it this very sec. It seems I had to fix it by the 17th, so I'm past due a few days. This is my first fix-it ticket, so don't really know much about them. Since I'm past due, am I royally screwed? Will I be sentenced to death now? :P
No, but really, are they going to charge me up the ass now? shit!

look under exhausts.
Edit : "decibel meters must be certified and calibrated for its readings to be used as evidence. In addition, police officers must be properly trained to use it."

so that douchebag cop was bascially an idiot. I knew I was right. I even asked him about the decibals, but he said I was wrong. Too bad I wasn't sure of my knowledge at the time. So I can just call the number here on this ticket and let them know he was in violation.

It would of helped if you would of contested it within the given time-frame.

easiest ticket to get dismissed . you are supposed to be in court that day that it says to prove you have fixed it .well thats how it is here in ny . i just took a old pic with my car and told them i changed it lol and it got dismissed . it happened twice . the cops that will give tickets for that are just trying to be assholes .

helps if you have a pic with a news paper in it, showing the date.

You have a bench warrant out for your arrest. Go straight to the traffic court and ask for an extension.
At this point you will find it far easier to swap in a stock exhaust, get it passed, and swap back than to fight it IMO.
Edit: The only place I'm aware of to get a modified exhaust ticket signed off is at a CHP substation. If you go there first you may be arrested, so go to court first. The ticket says "any peace officer" may sign you off. If you have cop friends, that's an option, but don't try and stop Joe Sheriff on the street and ask him to sign you off.
Any cop on the street may WRITE you a ticket, but if the CHP substation upon closer inspection finds that your exhaust is legal by law (95db) then they will sign off on it without having to go back to stock. Then you just pay the $10 court fee and it's erased. If the CHP refuses to pass you, then you have no choice but to return to stock and try again.

okay, i called court and was given a 60 day extension, so I'm okay for the time being. So now I have time to contest it in court.

You don't need to contest it in court unless the CHP doesn't sign off on it as-is. The inspectors at the CHP know the law really well and have a decibel meter so you should be fine as long as your exhaust is legal. It costs nothing, so just go down and try.

oh, I see. Will and can they screw me with some more tickets if they see my intercooler and guages? Sort of like incriminating myself, by showing up.
