20208, Checking in
Posted by DSMRoadster, Jan-20-07 12:11 PM
Hey fellas. Only a couple more months to go. Sadly, we're going home with one more less. Another one of my colleagues was killed by an ied. What a time to be in Afghanistan. We were hoping to go home with everybody, but sadly we're going home with 3 less. I'm missing home as always, but the thought of getting back to my bike and buying a new car helps to keep me going. A lot of new names I don't recognize here. What happened to the old timers? The veterans are dwindling. I haven't forgot about this site. 8 years I've been on here. Where the fuck is my honorary moderator status Dino? Jk. So how has everyone been? During the winter here it's like 30 degrees at night and 80 degrees during the day. Haven't seen snow on the planes down where I'm at, but about 3-4k away I can see snow cap mountain tops. I'm at 6k feet above sea level. A lot of activity so I've been extremely busy. Give you an idea, the Paki border is about a 15 minute helicopter ride from where I'm at. It is the suck here, but I can thank god that I've lived another day. So gents, I'm just chiming in to let you know I'm still a live. Until then, god bless and good night.

(Whispering): Psst, hey Jonathan, he's stationed in Afganny ;-) .

Cool dude, and thanks to all that are there. You're sitting awfully close to the border aren't you?

So where do you (and the guys over there) think that tall ass, diabetic, Saudi is? Even still alive?

Stay low and godspeed,
MB

hey man, sorry to hear about your group. the things that insurgents are able to come up with in terms of engineering and hiding the ied's/efp's is becoming more clever and more retarded. i know you all are probably freezing your balls off up there. be safe bro and keep your head down and your six covered.

We're (4th BCT 3d ID Mech) heading back to the sandbox (Iraq) in late summer. I can't wait to get this one over because it will be my last. After that I will be getting out and putting KCG Performance (or what ever my partner and I decide sounds best) into buisness. Gonna save the deployment $$ this time and use it to get the buisness up and running. Keep your head down you'll be home soon enough. Hooah!!

Yeah it does. :(

Brother V, it's good to see you checking in. We miss you, man. Tonight I raise my glass to fallen heroes and pray their families are granted peace.

Let us know when you guys are officially on short time, okay? I can't get you honorary mod status, but I can sure as hell send an email out to everyone on this forum announcing your return home as being reason to celebrate. ;)

Thanks for all the comments and offer fellas. I am on short time status right now. I just gotta survive the next 3 months. I have about 60gigs of porn on my external drive and more care packages than I can store. I've been gone since January of 06.....damn that's a long ass time. The dynamics of contact has changed in my area. Ieds kicked up 300% as opposed to actual ambushes. Last week of December I was the quick reaction force commander and we found 10 ieds in 4 days. 1 on Christmas, 1 the next day and 8 the 4th day. These cowards will not go head on with us anymore after we took out their big boss for this region. One day at a time and one boot in front of the other.

God bless the Gunney. I've been extremely blessed and I refuse to call it luck. I had a grenade detonate 10ft away from me. I walked away without a scratch while one of my team leaders took shrapnel to the leg and received nerve damage. He was standing 1 foot away from me. He's been home since. Insurgents get paid more for every leadership they take out. A month later they specifically targetted me. Motherfuckers shot a fucken rpg right at me in the middle of the night. It ricochet off a sidewall about 5 feet away from me and detonated 20ft above my head. Had to change my underwear after that fight. I've been blessed, but my squad has taken the most casualties. 2 of my team leaders, both corporals, and 1 of my joes are home now due to combat injuries. My 203 gunner was hit with a mortar round that landed 5ft away from him. I have that on video. He's chilling at home in a wheel chair and will walk again pretty soon. It's been rough, but at least we're almost going home.

even though i don't get to call home or check in every day, i do feel blessed knowing that another day has come and gone. sometimes it seems like time is going fast and other times it seems like time is standing still. at this moment, a year doesn't seem like it's going to take too long. but again, it's not so bad at this moment. be safe everybody and especially the ones who have to go out everyday...i know that shit gets old real fast.
