20016, Any snowboarders? Posted by CopperEclipse96, Jan-15-07 02:43 PM
I'm just getting into it, although I've always wanted to try it. I went for the first time the other night, and loved it. I picked it up pretty quick. I rented a board, but it was so friggen expensive, and such a waste of money, so i'm looking to buy one. I don't want to spend too much, but I want something decent also. I looked at some secondhand sporting good stores around here, and there wasn't many options, so I went and looked at some new ones. Seems like I'll be spending about $400 plus for a decent setup. Any input on what would be a fairly priced decent first board?

I got my board a while back. It's a Lamar, those are pretty good for the money. You won't need to spend too much for a good setup, I spent probably around 110 for boots, 90 for bindings and however much for the board. Renting boards around here isn't bad, it's only about 25 bucks or so for the day. Where do you live?

I live in ohio. Its about the same to rent here... like 25-30 for the day, but if I go alot, i think it's a waste. If i want to go for a couple hours after or work or something it's only $20, but if i need to rent, I'm looking at $45-$50 every time. Plus if I go out to PA, or NY, it would probably be even more to rent... so yeah...

Yeah I understand where your coming from. I would check out this site:
http://www.the-house.com
That's where I got my stuff from, they are located here in MN, but they have free shipping on everything. I would find out what sizes you need of everything and then order it from here. Pretty fair prices as I just looked it all over once again.

Being a skateboarder for about 9 years now and the first time I went snowboarding, I instantly thought it was a blast. The winters have been rather lackluster in Indiana the past year or two and I just haven't had the time or chance to make it out to get a session in.
Although last night we got about 4 inches of snow and it's still falling, so I think it's time to start looking for a setup as well. Let us know what you come up with if you get one man.

I recommend Atomic, Rome, Lib Tech, etc... They are all good boards. I just bought Atomic Alibi and love it! They are not cheap, but I think they are worth the $$$.

Mind sending me the details on that Tony? Perhaps some pics as well? I might consider it.

haha it wasn't me who said that. that was coppereclipse95, i'm coppereclipse96. a case of mistaken identity lol.
but yeah, I would really like to see some pictures. i bought some boots tonight, since all of the ones at the secondhand sporting goods stores were really shitty. what size board is that that you are selling?
anyways, my boots are the burton tributes... pretty much just the entry level boot i guess, but I think it will be plenty good enough for me for a while. I'm looking at getting the burton custom bindings, and then a few different boards. the rossingol imperial, burton clash, burton bullet, and the morrow peak. the peak is the cheapest, at like $170, the clash and the bullet are $240 and the imperial is $200.

I'm thinking about buying a set-up as well, I may be moving in with Mike in Minnesota here in a month or two. I went snowboarding when I was there a couple of weeks ago and loved it!

I'm not a fan of Burton. Too overpriced for what they are. That's my opinion though, I'm sure people will disagree.

Oh crap, my bad Ian. I definitely got identities mixed up there. It's your call now. I'll back out for now.

Should this be moved to the FS section, lol!
BTW, wasn't Lamar the name of the gay dude in Revenge of the Nerds? Did he make his own line of snowboarding equipment, that would be interesting.
