19893, Scammers crack me up
Posted by cougar694u, Jan-12-07 05:44 AM
I listed a helmet I bought on CL because it's just a hair too small for me :cry Oh well :shrug

This is the e-mail I got from the guy:

Good day,
Calvary greetings in the name of the Lord ,While i
was Surfing
through The Web i came across your item
and i fell In love with it and i would like to
make purchase of it ..., I will need the condition of this
item, last price, your name and
phone number maybe we can discuss more on phone and
i can effect
payment immediatelly ..

hope to read from you soon

Regards....Mack

Here's the listing:

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/mcy/261283319.html

I should string him along and say I'll sell it to him for $5000. I just responded, "which item?"

**EDIT**
Am I on crack? I posted this, but nothing happend, so I reposted it now.

**EDIT 2**
If any 2gnters are interested, I'll sell it for $150 + s/h. Hat size needs to be 7 to 7 1/8 for this helmet. I'm a snug 7 1/8 and though it'd be okay. I also thought about ordering the thinest pads for it and see if that helps (you can replace the liner & cheek pads with different sizes).

most manufacturers use the same shell, but different pads for various sizes.

Also, if its just "snug" you have to remember that a new helmet needs to be broken in.

I grew up riding and wearing helmets. This one's too small. I wore it for 30 mins and it still felt good, but when I looked in the mirror, I can see where it pushing too hard around my forehead.

I don't want to spend $50 on pads & liner when it might not fix the issue. I'd rather sell the helmet and buy a LG.

**EDIT**
Oh, and as far as the different shells, xs through med is one size, and lg through xxl is another size, so changing the pads won't help (I just called KBC).

I called KBC again and explained the deal. They were very cool and said they'd find a large to swap out for me. He made it very clear that they don't normally do that, they don't stock helmets, and they don't sell directly to the public.

If he comes through, I'll probably only buy KBC motorcycle helmets from here on out.

I told that scammer to go ahead and send his 'excess check' to me.

I went through the entire e-mail response and changed the $50 shipping to $500 and the price to $2000, making the total $2500. You know, how you can edit forwarded messages.

He responded saying okay. These guys are so dumb. If I actually get payment, I'm going to put a fuckin melon in a box and ship it, and put 50 cents for the 'excess' I'm supposed to refund.

Just goes to show, Luke. You should always list your price in Spanish pirate bullions from shipboat sinkings. :P

just wait and see how he sends payment, if it's Paypal then just pull all the money out of the account and kill the Paypal account, they can't take money from you if it's not in an account they have access too. If it's a money order or bankers check, then don't send shit anyways, the money won't clear and you'll be out 50cents plus shipping and a melon.

All those excess checks are cloned cashiers checks. They actually buy one, then fake an X number of them. That way, if my bank calls to verify, the originating bank will say, "yes, we have record of check number XXXX for XXXX, so it's legit". Then, a month later 15 of them hit the bank and they all get denied.

**EDIT**
What I should do is make a helmet out of a watermelon or something, like that cat with the lime helmet, and send it. I'll print up my own 'label of authenticity' and send it to them. Here's to hoping the idiot sends payment.

Yeah, Shell it out then paint the outside of it to look like your helmet.

Momma always said, "don't ever waste the good inards of a melon."

Well, KBC came through and the scammer didn't. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the same model, a VR-2 Gunslinger, but he did send a VR-2 Legend with this letter:

I have sent you this VR-2 Legend helmet as a courtesy because I did not keep my promise on getting you a replacement helmet for your VR-2 Gunslinger. I was unable to find a LG size Gunslinger for you. I apologize.

I hope that you can get good use out of this helmet. This is free of charge and for you to keep.

So I got to keep the Gunslinger and get this helmet.

Fuckin rock on homies!
