"BAGHDAD, Iraq - Three years after he was hauled from a hole in the ground by pursuing U.S. forces, Saddam Hussein was hanged Saturday under a sentence imposed by an Iraqi court, an Iraqi official told NBC News.

The deposed president was found guilty over the killing of 148 members of the Shiite population of the town of Dujail after militants tried to assassinate him there in 1982, during Iraq’s war with Shiite Iran.

Asked if Saddam were dead, the official in the Iraqi prime minister's office said, “Yes, the body of Saddam Hussein is in front of me.”"

apparently there were video cameras and still photos taken of the hanging, reports also stated that he refused to wear a hood. you're gonna see his eyes pop out of his head WHEN the video gets "accidently" leaked to the internet.

I was in Kerala, India when that happened. We had no idea that he was hung. There were people driving around in jeeps with loudspeakers saying "blah blah blah Americans blah blah blah".

We asked our driver, Babu, what was just said and he said that it was some anti-american stuff.

Turns out that that same day in the town we drove through another tourist car was stopped in a demonstration, the driver was pulled out and the british people in there were going to be killed if the police didn't pull them out and bring them to a safe place.

A british guy was found hanging in a tree 2 days later in Goa, India. And in Hyderabad, where my parents are living there are demonstrations daily with people burning "bush".

It was not a good thing to be white in India at that time, I can't imagine how it would be over in Iraq or other places in the Middle-East.

i think it was better in Iraq. A friend of mine who is deployed over there said the Iraqis were celebrating, dancing in the streets ect... Course theres those who were loyal, they caused most of the problems that day, but I'd say 90% of them were happy.

key thing to remember, you have shia's and sunni's and kurds here in iraq. sunni's and shia's are the dominant religous population in the baghdad area. so you can imagine, the ones celebrating were also the ones getting targeted by the loyalist. needless to say, walking around in iraq is like treading on thin ice.
