I have a problem with 2 males fighting (dogs). I do have a female in the house and there si a lot of info on the net that claims adding a female will stop the fighting. No it doesnt in this case. It is bad enough that either male must be caged or outside while the other is loose in the house.

Better yet.... Tonight Rocco tried to get through the cage to attack chopper. Rocco was outside the cage trying to get in. Figure that one. Rocco is a 40lb Corgi and chopper is a 65lb Aussie.

Chopper;s nuts are cut off already. We have been heasitant to do the same to rocco because he is a champion bloodline and i want to breed him.

Any educated idea's

Terry, they do have prozac for dogs. I put my last dog on it because she was nuts.

Isn't prozac for depressed girls. I would think you would need something like ridelin.

you can get downers for dogs but i would ike to avoid that. meds for dogs are extremely expensive as well.

My g/f is a vet tech, certified dog trainer, & animal med student. :shrug Her reply:

Just because a male dog is neutered doesn't mean it will not display aggressivness to another dog. That's saying just because a eunich has no dick and balls he could not find a woman attractive. It's *always* advised NEVER to mix the same sex of dogs together (male/male or female/female) as there will ALWAYS be competition for pack leader (next in line under you of course). Just because the dogs got along as puppies or adolescents doesn't mean they will get along as adults. *Especially* if one dog is unaltered.

Now by getting a female you've only given the dogs MORE to fight about. In dog society a male and female rule the rest of the pack. Well prepare for constant fighting between the only 2 males to be leader. Either get rid of one of the males, neuter the unfixed male, or prepare to come home and find one dog either mauled, dead, or worse. It's not fair for one dog to be caged all day and not the other.

Also as a side note: neutering MAY NOT fix the problem as now the habit / behaviour of dominance between the dogs is established it probably most likely will NOT go away with surgery. You're a dumbass and don't deserve to own dogs. Try keeping fish. "

Every time they try and fight, discipline them. They'll eventually get the message. That's what my friend had to do to his miniature pincer because she kept on attacking his pit. They're fine now though.

Yeah i understand that shes sensitive and all, but come on, the guy is going as far as to post on 2gnt for help to figure out how he can resolve this. Its not like hes just lettin them tear each other up.

we have 3 dogs (2 shelties and a japanese spitz) all female and they get along alright. so idk what that "NEVER mix same sex dogs or they will kill each other and you are a dumbass for doing so" thing is about...

i'm not sure what you've tried so far but i agree with the people sayin you just gotta discipline them until they get the message that it's not ok to be fighting like that. our spitz used to be really aggressive when we first got her (before the other dogs). she would steal food a lot and bite everyone when they'd try to stop her. it was bad enough that she drew blood on several occasions. it took a lot of spanking and whatnot but she eventually mellowed out. she still gets grouchy and will growl occasionally but she never bites now. just gotta show them who's boss.

He already had her. He didn't get her to alleviate the problem. He only states that he'd heard it can help, but in his case it isn't.

Apparently keeping fish isn't that easy either. How many times has she killed yours?

Dan tell your bitch that I have a special place for her under my car as I go down the road at 80mph. Broad should have been drowned at birth. My dogs are treated extremely well kept and for the record Chopper was added to the two corgies when the owners wanted to put him to sleep since they couldnt find a buyer for the left over puppy, so i took him and he is one of the best dogs you could ask for.

Neither dog stays caged. I simply keep them apart, one stays inside while the other stays outside and they get rotated. Currently i am taking the advise from a trainer that works for the state training police force k-9 units. When i am home they are both kept in the house loose and they both get disiplined if either shows any signs of aggression. So far all is well with little issues.

She can GO S.A.F.O. Dan! Ask her about her opinion of your electric fence, I bet she thinks its a wonderful humane idea.
