12098, Would you buy it? v.DSM$500

A friend (who is a mechanic) just called me up --- some guy he knows is selling his 93 AWD.

Story goes the guy was deployed, now hes back, but the car has been sitting for 2 years.

Its a bone stock 93 AWD with title.

the scary part -- it doesnt start BUT its probably just the fuel pump -- the car will start if you just spray fuel in the throttle body. Fuel pump is not a big deal, but until i buy it and put a fuel pump it in, who knows if it smokes or leaks or whatever.

Friend had the car up on a lift at work -- bottom of the car is dry, so thats good. Fresh tires on it as well. Interior is said to be in very good conidtion, the paint is typical 13yr old DSM paint, so its peeling. But again, im told it looks like its been taken care of.

So, car crew, do you commit to buying this car, sight unseen?

$500, title in hand.

keep in mind i need to commit to this purchase w/o ever seeing the car first hand -- 1st $500 takes it and there is already someone semi-interested.

yeah you gotta snag it, even if it does have a destroyed engine and trans...it would still make a hell of a project car

I say no...but I'm partial.

I bought my 91 eclipse for 500 dollars after it had been sitting for oh...about 7 years in the woods. The fuel pump on this car was bad as well, but the gas tank was rusted to shit and the fuel pump was gawd aweful shape.

I spent over 800 dollars in parts to try to get the thing running right and it was still a terd. I got SICK...and I mean SICK of working on it. Anyway, I still sold it for 1600, but I put a lot of time into that thing.

My advice to the world...NEVER buy a non running DSM unless you know your shit.

so you put $1300 into it and sold it for $1600 and this was a negative experience? Did it sleep with your girlfriend or something? just asking LOL!

i'd rather see a car before buying it, but you can't beat a $500 awd dsm in supposed good condition.

$500

Worst case scenario...

You sell the head - $100
You sell the bottom end - $100
You sell the ECU - $100
You sell the wheels - $100
You sell the tranny - $100

You break even right there. And those are *low ball* prices. For that price, you might be able to double your money just by parting it out! I didn't even mention the $150 you could easily get parting out the stock turbo and SMIC on eBay.
