I've gone through many ideas in my head of what car I wanted next, but most of them all fell short, due to being 19 and not having any type of credit. Started with trying to find a stock 2GB TSi (impossible to find), financing a Scion tC to either 1.8t Jetta or GTI (expensive, payments and full coverage insurance), back to another 2GNT, then back to wanting the Volkswagens, then decided to stick with trying to afford co-signed loan payments for a 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si. I learned my lesson and need to start building up my credit slowly & to find something affordable and that I liked. Been looking around for a 2GNT, but many of them around my area have been modded to my dislikes.

Several nights ago, my g/f's stepdad calls and tells her he wants to speak with me. He says he sees a Honda Prelude driving around for $3,300 OBO, do you want the number? I said "sure" and gave the guy a call. I meet up with him to check the car out and its a 1993 Prelude Si w/ 5spd transmission, DC Sport 4-2-1 header & RAI, lowered with aftermarket wheels. The paint is fading all over the place, but there is no rust and the car drives excellently with a clear title; even a fresh clutch install, new brakes and axles. I fell in love with it... I want to fix this car up and have it looking beautiful, I told myself. Before I know it, I've already set up to pick the car up in about 2 weeks, as he needs to look around for a car as its his only means of transportation as of now. I only have "minor" plans for this car as I'll be in another 2GNT soon, but for the time being, I'll be daily grinding this rice rocket.

I'm pretty much looking for an aggressive OEM type of look, which has been taken care of for the most part due to the lowering (a very nice stance might I add). A little more info on the Prelude:

H23A1 2259cc (138 cu. in.)
160 bhp @ 5800 rpm
156 lb-ft @ 5300 rpm
redline 6500 rpm

KBBs for a little over $2800 in fair condition. I will be purchasing it for $2800. I'll have pics soon.

Jesus, I started reading the post and was wondering if I had written this and forgotten, i had to doublecheck. I made up my mind today too, I'm 19 and have gone thru so many changes of mind over what I wanted (and I went through the volkswagen phase exactly like you), and my boss comes into work the other day and says "hey man there's a sweet mitsubishi for sale down on Hintz". I take my lunchbreak and drive around town and finally find it, and damn is it clean. 98 GST , 89k miles, everything, including the engine, looked super clean, brand new wheels and rims (niice black rims with a chrome lip) tints all around, that lovely turbo wing, the paint looked almost immaculate except for small blemishes here and there.

Guy wants 7995 but said he'd consider 7800, so tomorrow my GS goes up for sale.

Hey man don't be so quick to bash the lude, it's a beautiful car escpically w/ a good drop wheels and a nice lip, and the potenital of the h motors is quite good, the h23 can out run 99-00 si civic even tho it has no vtec, and the h23 is good to turbo also if you put mahle pistons in so that you don't have resleeve the block. I have a 92 Si that I swapped a F22B(it's the JDM h23 but it has iron sleeves instead of the H's FRM sleeves) 2g manifold w/ legacy top mount intercooler, hondata s200 and a 14b running right now. You'll love that car. Here's some pics of it the scoop is for the IC so it is functional.

Congrats on the new purchase. I wish I could decide what to buy next. I go from wanting a normal older car that is cheap, like my old 2gnt, to something faster like a newer GTO to something newer but something that won't get me in trouble (350z)

Lol. But yeah, I have a friend who just repainted his Lude about the same exact color as yours, pretty clean. Not much of a fan of the white rims, but that is my personal taste. The Prelude I'm buying has aftermarket white rims on it. I might sell 'em, but I'm definitely replacing them as soon as possible.

I didn't know that the H23 didn't have VTEC, although that would explain there being an Si model and a seperate VTEC w/ the evar so popular HB swap H22 motor. However, doesn't the H23 have the same style intake manifold as the VTEC model where there are 8 runners; 4 valves open as any normal 4 cylinder car, but after a certain RPM, the other 4 valves open to allow more air, correct? This is so much fun, being a no.ob on a completely new car like all of us started on our 2GNTs. But anyways, wouldn't that be considered VTEC?

Well he said daily ricer, my bad. No vtec is varaible valve timing and lift, the cam on a vtec car lifts at a certain rpm to let more air flow into the motor thus more power, and yes the h23 does have the same runner setup as the h22 intake mani. but it's just there to help out the low end but the h23 doesn't really need because it has 156ft tq already, but you can actually unplug the vacuum and have all 8 runners open all the time.

I'll be back in a 2gnt, like I said, but the Prelude will be a fun side project until that day comes. Parts are so cheap and its just another chance for me to learn more about a different brand of car. Of course, there are dense headed people who think ALL Honda/Acura owners are retarded ricers... although the 3 feet tall spoilers and non-fuctional hood/roof scoops do help in thinking that, but rest assure, this will be one clean Prelude with all functioning mods for HP improvement.. Might even boost it, who knows?
