I'm willing to be that a large part of the success in aprehending the gunman in the story linked was because one of the students who went to get his gun was a POLICE OFFICER, trained to deal with those exact type of situations, not little Timmy from down the street. Not to mention, Goss even secured the gun from the other student once the suspect had been aprehended and all was done.

Your average college kid simply does not have the experience or training to handle this unfortunate kind of situation and would probably just start shooting.

It's easy to get a handgun, all you really need is to be 21 and not be a felon or otherwise a danger to the community at large. What is not easy is knowing how to properly handle said firearm when the time comes.

I should hope not. This has nothing to do with race at all and anyone who would look differently upon you for the actions of someone else is a retard and not in a position to judge you.

Curtis-- glad you're okay bro. Deeply sorry that you've had to be affected even moreso than the VT community at large because of the loss of your friends.
