9634, do we have drums, discs, rotors or what?
Posted by nappyjim, May-25-02 07:25 PM
Forgive me for my newbyness in the brake area. But my disc or drums or rotors or whatever are rusty as hell and make my car look like shit. Its not the part that the brake pad presses against. Its this part here.

The part that the bolts are sticking out of that you mount the rim on. Well this is rusty and I want to replace it. if i buy new disc's does that part also get replaced or not? If not, can I buy a new one of these anywhere. As you can see im very confused in this area. help.

Yes it gets replaced. The studs arent connected to the brake disc though. You might also try some brake cleaner to get some of that rust off.

Sand it down, then paint it with caliper paint. No more rust, but I think the paint may look ricey. Silver paint would be ok.

haha you will never get rid of rust there. What kinda wheels do you have that you can see it anyway? My rear ones I sanded it down with a roto brush and painted it with caliper paint. Can't see it rust anymore but when you take the wheel off you see rust on the paint :(

i dont think thats rust, i think its brake dust. i have the same problem. i live in cali and have that problem even when its NOT raining. brake cleaner works pretty good you just have to do it whenever you wash your car.
